The reason the Republicans couldn't put together a decent field is that they have lost touch with their conservative base; they don't know who they are.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Newt and/or Tom Delay come out of nowhere in a few years with a plan to re-energize the conservative base.
I've heard good things about Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, but I don't know anything about her.  I've also heard good things about Alabama Governor Bob Riley.  I could see either of them emerging as the next GOP nominee.

Newt's too old and he has too much history. Palin is freakin' hot. I'd LOVE to vote for her.  Grin

As an Alabamian, I can testify that Riley has been an excellent governor.

Haven't ya'll been paying attention to the news about Palin Huh

It seems that she and her family used her office to carry out a vendetta against Palin’s ex-brother-in-law. She tried to have the man fired — he’s a policeman, and the public safety commissioner refused to fire him. So, Palin fired the public safety commissioner.

There was talk of her being a vp candidate for McSame. It looks like now she may joining Ted Stevens in court  Cheesy

Reminds me of Bill and Hill- Travel Gate.  Except they were smart enough to actually have their targeted workers fired.  I guess Palin really isn’t qualified after all.
