From a campaign strategy, this makes sense...Obama is dominating and there is no reason for him to roll the dice by entering a debate. Still, it is disappointing that he doesn't want to engage in another discussion of the issues (hopefully more concrete). He's forced to debate in Ohio and Texas because those are really the only two big prizes left up for grabs.
(CNN) – Hillary Clinton is taking aim at Barack Obama in a new Wisconsin television ad for not agreeing to participate in a debate there.
"Both Democratic candidates have been invited to a televised Wisconsin debate," an announcer says in the new 30 second spot. "Hillary Clinton has said yes. Barack Obama hasn't. Maybe he'd prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions."
"Like why Hillary Clinton has the only health care plan that covers every American, and the only economic plan that freezes foreclosures," the announcer continues. "Wisconsin deserves to hear both candidates debate the issues that matter. And that's…not debatable."
The ad is Clinton's latest attempt to put Obama on the defensive over his refusal to debate the New York senator more than twice between Super Tuesday and the crucial March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas. Clinton, who has been widely praised for her debate performances this campaign season, had proposed one debate a week after Super Tuesday.
The Obama campaign later agreed to two debates — one in Ohio at the end of the month, and a CNN/Univision debate in Austin, Texas next week.
The ad is also a sign the Clinton campaign is still aiming for a strong showing in Wisconsin next Tuesday, despite the fact it is devoting much of its resources to the Ohio and Texas primaries a week later.
Responding to the ad, Obama campaign manager David Axelrod said, "We've debated 18 times, were gonna debate two more, but we've got other business to do here in terms of meeting voters face to face."

He knows he will lose in a debate against Hillery. like i said before he is an empty suit. all talk with his glorious canned speeches and waving of the arms but no substance. thats the way it is. He is a hypnotic speaker and those who are young and or weak minded fall under his spell and are more than willing to fall for his line. I am not one of those people. He is a very dangerous person "in times like these". Many politicans and others have had similar qualities as obama. Some like were evil and others just had huge egos and a hunger for political power. Obama has had a free ride from the press and they have glorified him while demonizing hillery. I would fear obama if not confident that he will be exposed and McCain will win in November. We can't take a chance on either obama or hillery. We need a person who is able to do what is necessary in these times. Thats John McCain.

pitty do you think mccain is a good public speaker?
i think his speaking does him more harm than good...it is unfortunate he can't do a better job imo
hillary in my opinion is the worst of the three...when she tries to 'fire up the crowd' she just ends up yelling and sounding like a crazy person
since the media is so in love with obama it wouldnt surprise me if they smear mccain like they smeared hillary
i dont see the media love affair with obama stopping anytime soon, even though i dont agree with it
after rereading that article according to the obama people they've already debated with hillary 18 times
lol no wonder he wants a break, i dont blame him!

He's not afraid to debate ... he already accepted one debate in texas on Feb 21 http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/clinton-obama-set-debate-dates/And I believe he's agreed to one more debate. Clinton was demanding they debate once a week .. which is a sign of desperation & a need for free publicity. Since there's already been 18 debates do we really need all that many more Especially when you consider the idiotic questions asked by the media.

pittypat is right, the media is owned by white men afraid of a strong and independent woman she is not dead yet but getting close. has to win big in the march primaries. as for littlemac, he should speak with a ventriloquist's dummy at his side and let the dummy do the talking. either mrs bill or obama beat little mac but i think obama does it with less of an after taste.

I am not looking for a good speaker. I want someone I trust to be able to handle the job. That is not hillery or obama. Maybe John McCain isnt a great speaker but he is the best person running to take over the presidency. Remember that I used to be a moderate Democrat but most of us have had to go republican. I have nothing against obama or hillery just don't want either to be president. The both have their canned speaches bla bla bla. I am not impressed. Grumpy, what do you stand for? All you have done since I've been on this board is downgrade women especially hillery and try to insult others intelligence. Are you a very insecure person who "gets off" that way?

Ok, here it is, my first post on this board. After perusing the place for a few days, I know its not a place for anyone who worries about getting their feelings hurt. It looks prett tough here, and I'll see if I can hang. I am one of those (gasp) people who supports Obama over Clinton, though I would have preferred Kucinich. Yes, I am a radical, left wing , liberal treehugger, but I do feel that with who is left in the race, Obama is a far better solution than Billary or McCain. We need to get out of Iraq, and not in ten, fifty or a hundred years. We need to get out ASAP. Enough damage has been done to the credibility of this country, and maybe, just maybe Obama can bring some dignity and respect back to the office and country. Its going to take some time to undamage what Shrub and his minions have already done, but I believe that Obama has the tools to do it.

Welcome to the board. But what are obama's tools? I believe we all want our troops out of Iraq, encluding John McCain. Neither obama or hillery will get us out like they proclaim. They'd say anything to get elected.

I think bush did a horrible thing by starting this war against iraq but now we have to deal with it in a responsible way. I am a moderate democrat at heart but extreme left wingers have stolen my party.

there are a few on this board who support obama over hillary...i used to be a big hillary supporter but i am leaning more and more toward obama, but i have concerns about his spending. honestly, i don't think any of the three remaining candidates are really going to be able to pull us out of iraq quickly. i think obama might be guilty of promising more than he can deliver, and not only about iraq. but he is definitely the most liberal on just about all the issues (not sure about healthcare) so it makes sense that a 'tree hugger' like yourself would support him oh and welcome to the board...it can be a bit tough but don't let anyone hurt your feelings. people on here like to jab at each other but most of the time it is done with humor (whether or not its funny is i guess debateable) and not to be mean spirited.
