What have you ever done or sacrificed for this country? For that matter what has anyone on this board done? gunit for one has served...i agree i am tired of hearing mccain keep saying he was a footsoldier in the reagan revolution. yay for him. now let's move past 1980, ok? don't worry patty i still think youre great, even if i dont vote for mccain don't let grumpy wear you down, we all know he's arrogant and ignorant

I am the mother of a 23 year old son, who is serving, as we speak, in Iraq. Don't talk to me about sacrifice. I want him at home, with all his limbs ,as well as his mind. This is his second tour, and he has had enough. he tells me that many of these young men and women have had enough of this war, and do not wish to spend all of their adult lives in the middle of civil skirmishes between Shia and Sunni. There will never be peace in that country, whether we leave now or stay through infinity.

that all strikes me as true, especially the part about never seeing peace in that country -- and thats something the current administration should have thought of ...i am sorry your son was put into this position by our president (i didnt vote for him) and wish congress had done more to stop it it is a damn shame...i have a good friend over there right now with three daughters, the youngest of which is only 1 yr old.

My 36 year son in law father of my three grandkids is also there, this is his 3rd tour. I also have another in 42nd airborne who goes back in November for 15 months. My grandkids have not had their father much since this began. I can empathize with you.

I agree jacklyn, we had no business going over there. But, for the security of this country we have to get out the right way. So many lives have been lost. My son in law says this all the time. He does not like Mccain but believes he is the best for president from what we have to choose from. So much death and heartache. Sometimes all I can do is sit and cry. What a sad mess the murderous bush has caused. He has so much blood on his hands I don't know how he can sleep. I believe he should have to pay for his crimes

your son enlisted voluntarily. he is a soldier and this is what soldiers do. contrary to what many think no one wants or wanted this war. we are there. this is not an enemy that you can decide when to disengage. we must win this and do it on the battlefield decisively. i too am frustrated, while i do believe in our cause, i don't follow the manner in which this war has been prosecuted. the answer is total war and victory.

Ok, here it is, my first post on this board. After perusing the place for a few days, I know its not a place for anyone who worries about getting their feelings hurt. It looks prett tough here, and I'll see if I can hang. I am one of those (gasp) people who supports Obama over Clinton, though I would have preferred Kucinich. Yes, I am a radical, left wing , liberal treehugger, but I do feel that with who is left in the race, Obama is a far better solution than Billary or McCain. We need to get out of Iraq, and not in ten, fifty or a hundred years. We need to get out ASAP. Enough damage has been done to the credibility of this country, and maybe, just maybe Obama can bring some dignity and respect back to the office and country. Its going to take some time to undamage what Shrub and his minions have already done, but I believe that Obama has the tools to do it.
Welcome Jacklyn!

Welcome Jacklyn! If Grumpy is mean to you, Pittypat will beat him up. I support Obama too. I completely agree that he's the guy to bring dignity and respect back to this country. I think he's got an open-minded approach to problem solving, though I'm concerned about the costs of his proprosals. With regard to Iraq, in reality, the differences between Clinton, Obama, and McCain will not be that great. McCain doesn't understand the global situation. He should read that RAND report. A military solution is overly simplistic. We can still do the best for Iraqi civilians, and US security, by approaching the problem on all fronts, plus engaging the UN and other nations, and motivating the Iraqis to take over, which is not done via a protracted occupation. With regard to the debates, Obama does well enough but it's true Clinton does better. The fact that she's pressuring for more debates indicates desperation once again. Obama does better in front of a crowd but agreeing to two more debates was reasonable.

No, I have friends who served and were wounded in Viet Nam but would never vote for them. I truly believe that McCain is our best choise given the choises we have. Hillery and obama, hell no!! This is not exactly like Viet Nam. Bush opened a pandoras box now we have to deal with and running out is not the answer. Talking is not the answer. They are hell bent on destroying this country and our civilation. If it were left to the radical liberals thats exactly what would happen. I may not agree with mccain on everything but his stand on iraq is right on as far as I am concerned. I am more concerned with my kids and grandkids than myself.

It seemed to me that you were telling Grumpy that his criticism of McCain was unwarranted because McCain served. If that was not case, nevermind. My humble apologies.

I think I was just being mean to the Grump. McCain's service has nothing to do with why I will vote for him. I sincerely cannot vote for a liberal. They scare me.

Well I'm glad to hear you will not be voting for any liberals. Of course, McCain sometimes sounds like one. I know his position on the war is key to you. I hear ya.
