You were absolutely right that that recruitment statement was a bit vague, so I'll let someone else do the talking. Here are some comments from an ultra-liberal member on the House Armed Services Committee, Duncan Hunter
http://republicans.armedservices.house.gov/news/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=314The army's force levels are slightly lower than what they are authorized to be. In spite of the fact that the army has lowering it's recruiting standards, they barely met last years recruiting goals.
It also seems that the effort to expand the army by 40,000 troops over the next 5 or 6 years is in jeopardy because it is so difficult to recruit people, even with the increased bonuses and waivers for people who normally would not be considered.
Of course, if the people who support the war would just run down to the enlistment office and sign up or send THEIR sons and daughters to war, the recruiting problems would go away.
Why aren't more republicans who support the war willing to fight it?
