BIGTEX makes his living in large measure by engaging in the exploration for and production of oil and natural gas (among other minerals).

BIGTEX' income from oil and natural gas us up a whopping sixty percent compared to this time last year, and BIGTEX is truly grateful for liberals, as they are the primary reason BIGTEX is wealthier.

Liberals have refused to allow drilling for new reserves of oil and gas in  tens of millions of acres of Alaska, the Rocky Mountains and offshore.  The result is a decline in U.S. and world oil/gas reserves and production, leading to an increase in the price of same.  Ergo, BIGTEX' working interests, royalties and overrides have jumped in value DRAMATICALLY in the past several months.

Thanks to all you liberals for making BIGTEX a wealthier man!

Spunkloaf suggests that if BIGTEX wants to stay wealthy, BIGTEX should start investing in newer energy technologies.

And BIGTEX is welcome.

BIGTEX, thanks to liberals, certainly has the funds to do so.

Does Spunkloaf use gasoline, oil, natural gas, diesel, etc.?

Both Big and Spunk are correct.

There are other reasons that Big is making bank off oil.  A small reason is the idiotic notion that we should be turning food crops into fuel.  A much larger reason is that around 3 billion people in India and China are now demanding more oil.  These, and Big’s example, all increase demand which increases price.

It is really Econ 101.  Too bad they don’t bother teaching it any longer in the US.  (Maybe there is a reason for it.)

The economic ignorance of the American public is appalling.

One good measure of the insanity of the American left is its insistence that no drilling take place in ANWR.  They are fools of the highest magnitude.

Spunkoaf does indeed use lots of gasoline, and natural gas for heating, and nuclear power/coal power for electricity.

Spunkloaf does not have the means to be less energy dependent right now.  But spunkloaf does help his employer in producing bio-diesel as a supplement for truck and tractor fuel costs in the summer.  Living in Minnesota, obviously spunkloaf cannot use this bio-diesel in the winter unless it is 90% diluted with regular diesel.

Spunkloaf will gladly continue this discussion as long as other stop assuming that it is ONLY the left that opposes drilling in the ANWR.  About this particular subject, spunkloaf is un-educated and un-decided.  Spunkloaf is here to learn...

Okay, I can't keep up with the third person thing anymore.  BT, this is your trade mark and I'll let it be at that. Smiley

I think the OVERALL ignorance of American people is appalling.  But I admit, I am ignorant to lots of economic discussion.  It is a bit more complicated than I can understand, but like I said...I am here to learn.  Tell me what you got.

Laws of supply and demand can be mitigated - but only for a short while and only with a host of unintended or counterproductive results.

There is one reason and ONLY one reason sources of energy other than coal, oil, gas and uranium are largely in their infancies - they are not cost effective or as practical as the other sources.

BIGTEX hopes advances in photovoltaics and other solar energy technologies rapidly advance in order that we might free ourselves from dependency upon overseas sources of energy.

IN THE MEANTIME, HOWEVER, we need to drill, drill, drill and mine, mine, mine!

As long as we are certain that it is safe to do so, I agree.  Smiley

As long as we can still preserve wildlife in Alaska, why not drill?  And the Rockies?  Damn, we need to make our own energy and stop buying outside of our economy.  That is pointless.

However, I support technologies that reduce emissions AND increase efficiency of these minerals.  Not for the cause of global warming, but for cleaner air in general.  It is a responsibility we should embrace.

It seems some people would rather waste all the energy they can in order to protest the idea of global warming.  I think that is going a bit too far.

BIGTEX does not know your age, but if you are old enough to remember the controversy surrounding the Alaska pipeline over thirty years ago you will recognize the fact that the same idiots who went into snot-slinging hysteria and wanted to stop the pipeline from being built are the same idiots who now want to prevent drilling in ANWR.

They were WRONG about the pipeline and they are WRONG about drilling in ANWR!

The fluffy little animals (and the big ones) like the pipeline.  They play around it.

Modern drilling rigs can be put up with very little impact of the ecosystem.
