Kill them! Kill them twice!

reports today of efforts by mex drug cartels to smuggle terrorists and weapons across border.  target was reported to have been army counter terrorism base.  six years after 9-11 and still our borders and ports remain wide open.  comprehensive immigration reform my ass.

Our ports are not secure (can't delay shipment of products to the store to inspect them ... that would interfere with corporate profits).

Our chemical factories are not secure (increased security would cost too much).

The list goes on and on. DHS is such a joke. The only reason we haven't been hit is due to luck ... not skill. I reckon bush didn't WANT to succeed at protecting the country. Otherwise they might actually have done something that's effective.

amazing i guess we sort of agree the difference for you its all about bush for me it is the govt in gereral.  this inertia existed well before this administration.  bush is the prez and it is his job to do all that is within his power to correct this.  he has not and has failed this country in doing so.  9-11 was in many ways attributable to bureaucratic fubar and our response was to increase the fubar??  not pure luck clearly some of the counter terrorism measures are helping as are two large bodies of water separating us from our enemies.  but the simple fact is that as we speak now they are coming.  this enemy has shown itself  to be adaptive and patient.

the republicans wouldn't mind another terrorist attack, that way they can keep the american people afraid, and keep them voting for the party that is "tough on terror. what a joke...bush has even gone on record as saying he doesn't care if the U.S. ever captures OBL. why would he care about stopping iraqi / afghan terrorists? an iraqi/afghan attack would validate the cluster f that are those wars over there. meanwhile our army is stretched to the breaking point and the borders are unsafe.

of course i care about border security. 9-11 was because our borders werent safe and those guys got into the country. i dont think things are any better today in terms of how our borders are protected. in fact i think its worse because now we have national guard troops in iraq getting blown up instead of here protecting us.

everyone knows dhs is useless. can you tell me one good thing they've done? even you admit the republicants have botched this one.

with regard to port/border security the buck has to stop with the prez.  i could try to make an argument about spreading the blame but he holds the office and in post 9-11 world his attitude towards security on our borders is criminal.  my understanding re 9-11 is that all entered on legal visas but the docs to get the visas were bs and many/most had over stayed their visas yet were cruising about the country with driver's licenses taking flying lessons!!  the prez is an open borders guy, the rep party wants the cheap labor and the dems want a low skill pop dependent upon govt services.  the one sure thing is that we are all screwed.

Conley is right. I have read news articles where republicans have stated another terrorist attack would be beneficial to them. I'll see If I can find a link to one, I did a quick search and didn't find one ... I will try again tomorrow. but I DO remember reading about this and shaking my head over it.

Found it!

In 2005 a GOP Talking Points Memo was leaked which suggests that a new attack by terrorists on U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American people."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/gop-memo-wishes-for-anoth_b_10528.html

I also found at least one news article where this was used by the head of Arkansas GOP

http://www.nwanews.com/adg/News/191942

There's probably others, if you're interested you can find them using Google.
