As we listen to the three major candidates and try to decode their statements and slogans ("Change we can believe in"or "Yes, we can"), it becomes increasingly obvious that the main issue of this campaign is the nature of our government and whether or not it should be changed. Changed to what? The Founding Fathers gave us a constitutional republic, which severely limited the power of government. It gave the American people the greatest freedom any people had ever enjoyed, and with that freedom they built the most dynamic, prosperous society in history.

***

And there are socialists among us today who want to do away with our constitutional system and change our government into a European style social democracy, which has unlimited power over every aspect of life.

The fundamental problem with american politics right now is the media treating the american people as morons by focusing on male bovine excretement issues like george steponhisnutsalot and charlie gibson did last night.

So it doesn’t matter to you that our constitutional republic, with limited governmental authority, is being fast replaced with a social democratic nanny state?  I think that for many this is not seen as a problem, but rather a desirable goal.

Hahahahaha Democrats get upset when their character flaws are revealed.
It's scary, strange territory for the hippies.
Hippies think character has nothing to do with the decisions a person makes?
Maybe this is the "terrorist" attitude, that has led to Democrats supporting the Al Qaida?

I think that will be the future. The USA is pretty unique among the Western nations but I think ultimately we will develop a social democracy.

We certainly will if we aren’t already there.  There hasn’t been a presidential candidate (with a shot of winning) who believes in a constitutional republic since Ronald Regan.  It is all about what additional powers are we going to give the government to control the lives of We the People.  The lack of votes for Ron Paul show that the American people support a social democracy vice a constitutional republic.

the fundamental problem with american politics is us.  we have demonstrated that our attention span is short, our memory shorter and that our vote is for sale.

No, the fundamental problem is that the American people act like morons. Grumpy's post says it best.
