yes, all i am asking is hold the oil companies to the same standards as the coal companies, as was done when coal speculators and similar leases cranked up the cost in the 70s. demonstrating a good faith effort to use the land is not too much to ask.

Confuscious said, "The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The next best time is today."

Had Congress and Bill Clinton had the intestinal fortitude to open up ANWAR and the continental shelves to responsible exploration and development back in the 1990s, there would be anywhere from two to five million additional barrels of domestically produced crude on the market today.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi was a member of Congress during that time. Clearly, like so many of her Democratic colleagues, she placed the environmentally sensitive beliefs of her constituents ahead of the pocketbook interests of the rest of the country.

Lest my liberal friends begin howling about the Republican Congress of the 90s and the Bush administration of the last seven years, rest assured I hold them equally responsible and similarly guilty of a damnable lack of political will. This is after all business and not personal.

Excellent points.  And it looks like Pelosi has been in Congress since 1987- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Pelosi

The silly thing about this whole "drilling for oil" quick fix concept is that we Americans would not see a single drop of any new oil they found before the NEXT presidents first term was over. Roll Eyes

It's also just more money for the oil industry, more dependancy for US, and no solution for the future.

Do us all a favor and post a factual history of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.  After you do that, tell us all how far it is from ANWR to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

Better yet, everyone reading this thread could do that 4 minutes worth of research for themselves.

It isn't a "quick fix", silly. It will necessarily be part of any solution to the problem. There is no way around that.

To most Americans if you cannot solve the problem within the time of a SITCOM it is too hard to fix; but not hard enough to not bitch about- go figure.
