since when has anybody in congress (either party) looked past the next election Let's face it, people have short term memory problems and cannot seem to remember the actions of the people they elect.

I will write him in if possible. This will be my first vote in VA, so I am not sure what process they use.

I like Ron Paul. I don't like the fact that he's endorsing Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party and not the Libertarian nominee.

What the heck is the Constitution Party? This kind of factionalism is death. They've got to constantly stress their common ground.

The Constitutional Party is the response of disillusioned Republicans, primarily religious right, to the disaster that is the Republican Party. I am not enamored with their social conservative positions.

I am not anti-war. I am against a war that doesn't serve US interests. Our bombing of Serbia qualifies, although it was so un-war-like, that I am not that much against it.
I am against the stated reasons for the Iraq war; however, I am not naive enough to believe that the stated reasons have any basis is fact. We need a presence in the Middle East until such time as we no longer need oil as a strategic resource. And if you wanted one base in the Middle East, Iraq is strategically the only logical place. Once oil is no longer a strategic resource I say the Middle East should be allowed to do what it wants- including degenerating into its apparent love for a 7th century barbarity. More power to them.
I am against the democracy fetish. It is folly to foist democracy upon a people. At best we can give them an "our SOB leader" who could serve as a possible transition to democracy- if the people embrace it.
And when I say democracy, read reprehensive democracy; because true democracy is probably the worse form of government (in any sizable community).

Good points. Well, I use anti-war to describe the current situation. That said, there are few past wars I can see much use for. I have just finished reading Pat Buchanan's new book Churchill, Hitler And The Unnecessary War. It is excellent-give it a read. OswaldTheOsprey

I agree with Pat about the necessity of that war. However, it did propel us to the status of world power. Although I admit that we likely would have inherited that title after the war had we not participated- out of default.
