All the constitution is important. If it was that obvious, it wouldn't have gone all the way to the Supreme Court.

monsieur grumpee .. you always have the option of voting for a 3rd party candidate .... You can always go for Alan Keyes ... or Mike Gravel ... or Bob Barr ... or even Ralph Nader.

You DO have choices but I would be suprised if you didn't vote for the republicans ...

you support war without end with other peoples kids
you support borrowing money from our kids to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy

it is obvious, all you have to do is read the law and read the second amendment.  maybe you should go back to sleep. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  with regards to baghdad sang and the horse he rode in on...  the issue is the second amendment and two pretenders who demonstrate no respect for the people's right to bear arms.

as i think about the complacency being demonstrated by too many on this issue, let me point out that even while this case was appearing before scotus, the dc authorities were going house to house asking people if they could search their homes for weapons....try if you can to think of the implications of this?  by the way vermouth did not have a point, but again you do seem to see things that aren't there Shocked Shocked

McCain has already lost. A vote for him is pissing in the wind. Given the state of the republican party, your vote doesn't even count as some sort of symbolism (as it does if you were to vote for, say, Ralph Nader, or a Libertarian Party candidate).

While I agree with you on the importance of the 2nd amendment, a vote for McCain has nothing to do with it, and will do little to protect it, since the reality is that he can't be trusted when it comes to what he SAYS his stance is on guns. We already know he is a liar...and that he can be bought (re: Boxing Commission, VN commission, etc.).

Any idea what his actual voting record is?
Obama is the most Liberal Senator in DC, Hillary is ranked 9th.
McCain is ranked 81st.
My decision is simple.  Smiley

You totally missed Vermouth's point, Grumpy. I would add that if you're just searching for the lesser of 2 evils, then you are still voting for evil...and you still get evil.

That said, I'm perusing McCain's record right now. What a convoluted pile of excrement. However, on gun rights, he's not too bad. He has one or two items that I don't like, but he's pretty pro-2nd amendment from what I could find. Not just his words, but his voting record.

Of course his record with regard to economics, health-care, gov reform, free trade, environment, foreign policy, etc. is crazy.

I guess you found your man.

again i am on record with specificity regarding my disdain for little mac.  mrs bill and bo's absolute disregard for the second amendment and the long term damage they will cause through their judicial appointment make little mac the only reasoned  choice.

Bite the bullet and vote for a 3rd Party candidate or vote None of The Above (it should be required to be on all ballots).  Just remember to hide your guns before the next administration takes over.

This is an interesting thread. What is a Rightist to do these days?

Does anyone think RP got his message out? Do you think he will have an effect on the future?  Frankly, I think he's a bad candidate. He's a lousy speaker (so is Bush...touche) and he is the most untelegenic character I've seen run for POTUS. That said, it woul dbe great to see him bring up some new blood. He could mentor a new breed of independents. I think we touched on this before actually.

I suppose this is all rather moot by now but what positions did he take that were far Right?

Who would you be more comfortable with: President Paul or McCain?

I would vote for Dr. Paul for president.  I likely will not vote for little Mac.  I think that most of my problems with Dr. Paul have been from some of the diverse supporters that flock to him.  I don’t believe that he would make too many changes to our government, simply because the President doesn’t have that much power domestically.  He certainly wouldn’t make many waves in the international arena (not that this is always a good thing).

We really need another 300 Congressmen like Ron Paul more than we need a Ron Paul as President.

Grumpy - Being on record regarding your dislikes for McCain are meaningless once you cast your vote for him. Sounds more like you're looking for an excuse to vote for him (just as you looked for an excuse NOT to vote for Paul). So fuck it - you found your man in McCain. Hold your nose, pull the lever, and then go have a bloody mary.

Mr. D & Peter - Ron Paul would make an excellent president. I've supported him and will continue to support him. While he has no realistic chance of winning the nomination, every republican in every state who has yet to have their primary should vote for him so that at least his economic policies will be forced into the conversation.

Peter is dead-on: 300 more Ron Paul's in Congress would be a swift answer.

I'm waiting patiently to see if Gary Johnson will run as a republican (or even libertarian) in 2112.

ron paul is a conspiracy theorist and a blame america first boy.  socially extremely liberal.  all that he had going for him was a strong proponent of fiscal responsibility and economic understanding.  although even as i type the words i wonder would dr paul' free trade be fair and result in the restoration/revitalization of this nation's manufacturing base?  would his open markets allow this nation to secure and control it's borders?  lousy communicator and totally uninspiring on his best day.  would make a great treasury secretary.
