The place to start is to ELIMINATE the Departments of Education, Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health and Human Services, Transportation, Hoursing and Urban Development . . .
What about the interstate highway system?

So Tex, are you suggesting that people be billed individually for their personal use of these things? Tollways, police, fire, health, etc.? How should it change?

BIGTEX gives up.
What about it?
Is it part of the Department of Transportation? Facilitating travel between states is a legitimate charge of the federal government.

Well, BIGTEX, due to his tax bracket, is billed not only for HIS use of these things, but for OTHERS' use of these things as well.
By the way: The Constitution establishes the right of the federal government to build roads and provides for certain forms of law enforcement as well.
BIGTEX pays more for his use of the roadways than most, due to the taxes and registration fees he pays for his Hummer, his DTS and other vehicles - not to mention the fuel taxes he pays as a result of the roughly 80,000 miles per year he and his spouse drive.
We have far, far too many police officers and paid firemen, however. Many of these folks have become nothing more than pigs feeding at the trough of government.

I agree with that. I have a few examples of overpaid police interfering with my own business, a couple of which I am considering talking to a lawyer about .

BIGTEX appreciates police officers who are professional enough to recognize the "big picture" scope of their duties. BIGTEX, however, has grown very weary of hearing the incessant bleatings of those who say they "put their lives on the line for us every day."
Last time BIGTEX researched the subject, police departments were all-volunteer forces.

I think America needs to cut funding on the "war on drugs". Most drug criminals are classified as such and jailed for possessing marijuana or prescription pills without a prescription. What a waste of time and money.

The "War on Poverty" was a failure. Poverty won, despite the fact we have spent well in excess of FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS of our treasure trying to lift the unliftable out of their self-induced circumstances.
Likewise, the "War on Drugs" has been a complete and abject failure. BIGTEX highly resents each and every dollar of his which is being used to arrest, prosecute jail persons who possess drugs.
No amount of governmental largesse will EVER keep people from taking drugs if they so desire.

Japanese and Iraqis? Please expound.
Does your reasoning then extend to, say, China or North Korea? More to the point, should it?

The ONLY reason China and North Korea possess nuclear weapons is because the United States ALLOWED them to have nuclear weapons by not destroying the means of those nations to develop them.
Germany might well have developed nuclear weapons in WWII had not the allies destroyed its capacity to do so.

Perhaps so, but that didn't answer the question.
