That our system would be an example that others would see and want to emulate.  As opposed to us going “over-there” and helping them see that our way is best through the use of force.

as long as we occupy the top of the hill then i'm on board.

That, in my view, is one of the problems. Especially when in a system that requires constant growth (beyond the rate of population growth) to sustain itself. There IS an end point to such a game.

please tell me that we are not implying that reagan was isolationist or that his brand of non-intervention would preclude us from acting in preemptive fashion or in the national security interests of our nation and ours alone.

Isolationists are against the free market, Grumpy. Do you think Reagan wanted too much regulation of the free market, or too little?
