Reason prevails. War on Terror wins.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy Stover, whose platoon is sleeping beside a poppy crop planted in the interior courtyard of a mud-walled compound, said the Marines' mission is to get rid of the "bad guys," and "the locals aren't the bad guys."

"Poppy fields in Afghanistan are the cornfields of Ohio," said Stover, 28, of Marion, Ohio. "When we got here they were asking us if it's OK to harvest poppy and we said, 'Yeah, just don't use an AK-47.'"

The “War on Drugs” has been another failed attempt a prohibition. Prison is supposed to be for people who harm others, not themselves.

Decriminalize marijuana, tax it, and regulate it as best you can. Circumstances where jail time would be necessary might include the sale of marijuana to minors and trafficking across the U.S./Mexico border, but that’s all I can think of at the moment.

Don’t sell the crap in gas stations, either. That’s just plain reckless. Only sell it in places where adults are allowed. Liquor stores and the like.

prison is for people who violate the law.  if you and the rest so far, don't like the law work to change it.

prison is for people who violate the law.

theoretically, yes

in reality, for people who can't afford good legal counsel

but i do agree with your point in general -- if you don't like it, make it change. another reason why AMERICA is AWESOME

i like it...i like it a lot! our prisons are overcrowded as it is. the only reason MJ is illegal is because of DuPont (or is it DelMonte)? and they are not what they used to be!

Seems like the drug lords are not the ones clogging up our prisons. Its little street people selling the stuff. if it were legal this would stop these small time crooks and free up space in the prisons for serious crimes.

This is why I am opposed to some mandatory sentencing laws. Mandatory sentencing floods our prisons and costs the taxpayers too much money.

Mandatory sentencing should be applied to sexual predators. One strike, lock them up for thirty or forty years. I am sick and tired of these people getting out after serving only three years of a seven year sentence.

As for murder: one strike, life in prison including hard labor. End of story.

(Edit: thanks for the welcome, Vermouth. Appreciate it.)
