Nice pic. This is one of the few places where cavalry still had it's uses in the 20th century. If I am not mistaken, a young officer by the name of Francisco Franco made a name for himself in Morocco.

The colonial troops stationed in Morocco, which included the Spanish Foreign Legion, were some of the most effective troops the nationalists had during the civil war. Arriba Espana!

I've never seen those hats before. Are you sure that's army?

Well, no I'm not sure-but it appears that writing on the picture reads "Co. B & E 16th USA". Remember also that 1911 was pre-war so the hats could have changed by 1917.

Yes, you're right. I see that. They are probably some dress parade hats or something like that. At first glance it looked like the kind of naval cap that marines would wear .
