I have a Puckett recording on a collection called White Country Blues. He actually uses the epithet "darkie".

Well.....carry me back to ol' Virginny!  I remember cranking up any of a number of Victrolas and  rocking out to "Mississippi Mud", "Smoky Joe" and other such gems which were simply shitcanned over the decades.  Back then it was just sort of humorous.  Now, I'd give my left nut for some of those old platters.

I always have a good time in VA. It's a beautiful state. I like the South and the culture. The only thing I can't get used to is your pace of life.

Speaking of the pace, JFK once quipped that Washington DC was a city of "Northern charm and Southern efficiency"!

The South is like everywhere else-good points and bad points. Of course, I live in a Birmingham suburb which is not Manhattan but not Mayberry either!

Just two observations, if I may.  Virginia is Mid-Atlantic, and the pace of life around here is balls-to-the-wall.  It's that way anywhere people are moving and shaking and trying to fit in some down/social time once "bidness" has been tended to.  I like to think that we're a nice balance between the screaming assholes of NYC and the slack-jawed retards in Miami, but without the snow or the Cubans.

Coolidge was a great man, and a great president. He didn't do a lot, but at the time, that's exactly what needed to be done.
