Houston doctors say they may have found a way to destroy HIV

This is somewhat interesting.

HOUSTON -- There is real hope that what’s happening in a Houston lab might lead to a cure for HIV.

“We have found an innovative way to kill the virus by finding this small region of HIV that is unchangeable,” Dr. Sudhir Paul of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston said.

Dr. Paul and Dr. Miguel Escobar aren’t talking about just suppressing HIV – they’re talking about destroying it permanently by arming the immune system with a new weapon lab tests have shown to be effective.

The theory has held up in lab and animal testing.  The next step is human trials. Hope it works.

I am a social conservative, more or less. I do not reject science and certainly not evolution. Secondly, in the West AIDS is identified with homosexuals because that is where it started.

I can agree that the religious right believes HIV to be a homosexual disease.  That however, if a far cry from stating that the religious right wants homosexuals to die and would not be happy to see a cure of the disease that has been know to smite straights as well.  


Can you post a link to support your assertion that the religious right rejects science vehemently?  I assume, since you did not limit your language, that you mean all science and not just the Theory of Evolution.  Also, do different religions agree that all science is to be rejected vehemently or do they vehemently disagree about which science is useful and which is not?

to be fair, i do think even now the vast majority of hiv infected individuals are homosexuals. i don't know the data, that's just my assumption. i did also read that one out of every two hiv patients in this country is black. i would attribute that giant number to drug use.

I was making a joke when I said social conservatives want all homosexuals to die. I see now that it was in very poor taste, and I apologize.

I should have been clear in my language regarding science. I was referring specifically to evolution. Again, I apologize for the confusion.

 Also true.  But that does not mean they relish the resulting suffering from the punishment and it does not mean that they believe homosexuals to be beyond forgiveness and grace.
