USA kicking some ass.....
79 total medals (more than anyone, with China close behind with a total of 76), 26 of those gold (way behind China, who has 43).
You can count on more US gold, however, with more track & field, women's volleyball, cycling, etc. Not sure how boxing is shaping up, or basketball.
Will the US close the gold gap?
Will China close the total gap?

china is killing us, but it's not unexpected. questionable judges, the taking of small children and putting them in 'academies' to train 16 hr days without seeing their families (ever), fake birth certificiates...to say nothing of the brilliant scheme of the Chinese Government to have protesters file permits to be allowed to demonstrate. all 90 or so were denied or withdrawn and a lot of the applicants have mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth. what do you think happened there?
hrmm i digress but anyway, it's not about the total metal haul, it's about the GOLD, jerry, THE GOLD!!
the us bball teams will both win golds but the boxing has been a complete disaster, even worse than expected (and it was expected to be bad)

I was only interested in Phelps and his achievement. I find the rest of it boring; I did hear that Army soldiers who two golds so far. One in sheet shooting.

Peter - Can't say I agree. Track & field, fencing, boxing, wrestling...all very exciting.

Injuries have been America's worst enemy and we are still leading in the overall medal count.
I can't say all of the athletes have been treated fairly by the Judges in Beijing, but the Americans could have eliminated mistakes to win more gold medals.
I don't think the unfairness was widespread.
