From McSweeneys:

0. Newtonian gravity is your high-school girlfriend. As your first encounter with physics, she's amazing. You will never forget Newtonian gravity, even if you're not in touch very much anymore.

1. Electrodynamics is your college girlfriend. Pretty complex, you probably won't date long enough to really understand her.

2. Special relativity is the girl you meet at the dorm party while you're dating electrodynamics. You make out. It's not really cheating because it's not like you call her back. But you have a sneaking suspicion she knows electrodynamics and told her everything.

3. Quantum mechanics is the girl you meet at the poetry reading. Everyone thinks she's really interesting and people you don't know are obsessed about her. You go out. It turns out that she's pretty complicated and has some issues. Later, after you've broken up, you wonder if her aura of mystery is actually just confusion.

4. General relativity is your high-school girlfriend all grown up. Man, she is amazing. You sort of regret not keeping in touch. She hates quantum mechanics for obscure reasons.

5. Quantum field theory is from overseas, but she doesn't really have an accent. You fall deeply in love, but she treats you horribly. You are pretty sure she's fooling around with half of your friends, but you don't care. You know it will end badly.

6. Cosmology is the girl that doesn't really date, but has lots of hot friends. Some people date cosmology just to hang out with her friends.

7. Analytical classical mechanics is a bit older, and knows stuff you don't.

8. String theory is off in her own little world. She is either profound or insane. If you start dating, you never see your friends anymore. It's just string theory, 24/7.

Haha, That's pretty good. I can picture someone for each of them.  Shocked

It is Vlad Tepes, son of Vlad Dracul if I am not mistaken.  http://www.castleofspirits.com/vlad.html

He is the famous Vlad.  I have been to the town that where he was born, Sighisoara- very neat place.

You are both right. The caption means "I want you". Not sure why I put it there....

I am planning to go there some day too. How did you end up in Romania? Were you vacationing there?

The wife and I took a train from Frankfurt to Zurich then to Romania.  We got off at Sighisoara where we had a rental car waiting.  It is a very poor town and there are a lot of gypsies running around – you have to be careful, they swarm you asking for money.  Two kids were hanging around and I gave them money, but more to the girl.  As I was waiting for my train out their father beat the boy because he didn’t get as much money as his sister.  My wife had to hold me back- which was a good idea because the guy and his friends probably had some sharp knives.

We did a loop through the Transylvania region and went back to Sighisoara to take the train back to Frankfurt.

The country is very beautiful but it is poor.   You have to be prepared ahead of time – plan your trip and have rooms for each night that you are there.

Nice trip.

I will do that. I am hoping to be there at least a month. Hopefully my wife will let me go alone without much fuss. She doesn't have any interest in it and would be a real drag. I would like to cover quite as much of the country as I can. Constanta would be the last stop i think. Brasov, Bucaresti, Carpati Mountains among others. I'm hoping my friend will go to. If he doesn't puss out though. He can be a pretty silly guy at times. In many ways, he reminds me of our very own Mr. D.  Shocked

You are so lucky. You get to travel the world...and you have a woman that can tolerate you for more than ten minutes.

*sighs* I'm going up to Reno to get a prostitute. I'll see you all tomorrow.
