I just read some stories about animals that were tortured and killed. It is an incomprehensible crime and we need tougher sentences for it. Maybe I'm being overly emotional right now, but I would support the dealth penalty for someone who sadistically kills an animal. There is no rehabilitation for someone so fucked up.

i dont even read shit like that, gets me too pissed off. its well documented that animal torturers/killers often start out by 'practicing' on animals and then moving on to humans. i would definitely support life in prison for these fuckers. its a sign of psychosis. also they should have made a model of michael vick too...and if they couldnt get him on the dog fighting they should have gotten him on the purjury stonewalling outright lying and drug use while under house arrest. scum of the earth...

perhaps some day a super smart whale with its giant sized brain will abuse a human, and then the shoe will be on the other foot!

I mentioned in the "extension of the death penalty" thread that I think if we're going to have capital punishment, it should be reserved for serial crime, not crimes of passion, etc. I'd rather see a guy who rapes women or children or tortures animals get the chair than some guy who walked in on his wife and her boyfriend.

I agree, and yet I am more sympathetic toward animals than humans. Animals - domesticated animals - are completely dependent on humans. They trust us without reservation and we betray them.

animals are not self-aware and therefore incapable of evil.

I do approve of cruelty to animals in some cases (e.g. communists, Phil Collins fans) but such acts are often indicative of serious psychological problems. It should be noted, however, that a love for our furry friends is no indicator of a healthy attitude toward humanity. Hitler, among others, loved animals.
