it is always the response of the state when people choose to refuse the gifts and directions of the motherland.

sadly, in the past that has been true in many cases. Not in all cases.

Provide the historical example of a State which did not use lethal force to ensure that its citizens conformed to the State’s demands?  This was the reason for the anti-Enlightenment ideas that led to founding of the United States.

Sweden, for one.

And what demands did the Swedish State place upon its citizenry?

I have one to add.

"Our fine men and women who died..."

I cringe to put this in because I greatly respect men and women who serve(d) in the military.  But this phrase is way over-used by people who use the people who died for this country to justify their opinion.  I find it disrespectful, and ironic.
