I am just waiting for Grumpy to start pumping out the McCain You Tube videos...that will be the last step in his conversion from "I'm staying home I would never vote for Little Mac and our country is doomed" to "Johnny Mac -- A REAL AMERICAN HERO"

He would have to come up with a new McCain signature. Maybe, in Spanish!

setting iraq aside, the only argument for little mac is scotus and given the decisions of this past term it is a strong argument indeed.

I don’t think that it is a strong enough straw to bet on.  The entire system is based upon unsustainable spending.  The sooner the people realize this the better off we will all be.  Neither candidate is going to spend much less money (or allow the Congress to spend the money) than the other.

there is no doubt that little mac is not a proponent of limited govt and anyone voting for him with the expectation of reduced govt will be as disappointed as those who thought bush was actually a conservative.

Yes, I was greatly disappointed that I didn’t see that Bush was not a Conservative.  I remember reading an article around the 2000 election where some Neocon was trying to make the case for increased government spending on Conservative issues.  I do not recall that it was linked to the Bush campaign and I did not make the link myself.  I immediately repudiated the article in my own mind and within my circle of friends.  There is nothing conservative about the level of government control that spending would entail.

A month or two ago I saw an interview with one of the more honest Neocons (Goldberg of the National Review) who claimed that had Bush truly been a Conservative the Dems would have won the last two elections.  His position is that the American people no longer want limited government.  Spend, spend, spend.

I am begrudgingly beginning to agree that the vast majority of American people feel this way.   The horrible state of Americans’ knowledge of economics and the philosophical underpinnings of this nation are to blame.

Happy 4th of July.

it has nothing to do with americans knowledge of economics or the philosophical underpinnings of this nation.  the socialism that we are sliding towards appeals to peoples basic instinct...to take the path of least resistance.  couple this with govts actions to kill the carrot effect of capitalism and there you have it.  if i told you from birth that you are entitled to everything and it would cost you nothing, who would you be now and what would be your view of the world??

I do agree with you- however, I think that a general ignorance of economics and philosophy allows this to occur astonishingly easily.
