Egalitarianism is simply absurd

Thank you, SDML--took the words right out of my mouth.

In fact, you pissed on my words and kicked them out the fucking door.  Wink Grin
I agree with everything you said.

Drugs are arbitrary.  You cannot measure or expect any particular statistic from them either.  They benefit everybody in such different ways that a manifest of factual information about the effects of them would take forever to keep up with.  This is why it is dumb to criminalize them.

The federal government overstepped its power in prohibiting recreational drugs.  Period.

Why does this mean so much to you, Spunk? Really, I'm not being facetious. It saddens me that young people get so passionate about this and little else.

they are being as passionate as alcholics would be if the guvermint made it illegal to drink or smokers if they made it illegal to smoke. I really believe the only reason pot is illegal is because it can be easily grown in a garden and wouldn't generate the tax revenue from sales like tobacco and booze.

Mr. D - why do you say Spunk is passionate ONLY about this when clearly this is not true. He engages in all manner of discussion on this forum.

I should have been clearer. I meant young people in general. I was just asking Spunk why this is so important to him.

To tell you why it is important to me is to tell you why wearing what kinds of clothes I want to wear, saying the things I want to say, and managing my life with whatever recreational processes I please is important.  I don't give this issue any more or less consideration than any other.  But I see something wrong with it, and these are my two cents.

Cool
Drugs are as much a part of this society and culture as religion and art.  The three go very well together, when they are not manipulated by higher forces.

The line must be drawn somewhere otherwise it will keep moving.  Give an inch they will want a yard.  Marajuana however compared to alcohol is a drug that adversely affects ones judgement.

People will get it anyway. If you tax it people will sue the government when they abuse it.

The idea is to persuade kids and irresponsible dead weights of society to use something else recrationally like a fitness.

For medical purposes I may be inclined to agree. Of course all the slackers will want permits like handicap placards.

Society is already a mess why add marajuana to further lower the bar?

That's where personal moral opinion plagues the concept of freedom.  I'll be exploring this more deeply as people mistakenly make similar remarks about why prohibition is necessary for the well being of society.  Somehow people have this idea that they can tell others what they should be doing with their lives by intimidation.  Not in America, people.

it should all be legalized, put a warning label on it, and do it at your own risk.

I am surprised that I found this. I read it a couple years back.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2419713.stm

Quote

Smoking pure cannabis is more harmful to lungs than tobacco, a health charity is warning.

A study by the British Lung Foundation found that just three cannabis joints a day cause the same damage as 20 cigarettes.

.

Evidence shows that tar from cannabis cigarettes contains 50% more cancer causing carcinogens than tobacco.

I disagree with the use of the phrase "cancer causing carcinogens". I have not read where it has been proven that cigarettes contain something that actually causes cancer. I know this is the popular belief, but I don't think that it has been scientifically proven.

Plus, if pot were made legal the cost would likely be extremely high. PS3 started at what, $600? The iPhone $700?  The Doobie will probably be heavily gouged for a while as demand will be high. And of course, uncle sam's cut.

On another note, I don't think it is right that the government tax things like alcohol, tobacco, pot (whenever that may be) and not share in some of the consequences of lawsuits that occur.
