Huh I thought it was just Huckabee who believed you could get HIV by being sneezed on. Angry

Twelve countries ban HIV-positive visitors, nonimmigrants and immigrants from their territory: Armenia, Brunei, Iraq, Libya, Moldova, Oman, Qatar,[Russia], Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sudan and the United States. China recently acted to remove its ban on HIV-positive visitors because it feared embarrassment ahead of the Olympics.
...
HIV is the only medical condition permanently designated in law - in the Immigration and Nationality Act - as grounds for inadmissibility to the United States.

China feared embarrassment for this  Huh Why this and not religious persecution, human rights violations, etc. etc.?

At any rate, no great stain on the US.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Shirley ( Tongue), Vermouth doesn't think this was derived from any religious attitude?

We allow the President of Iran to speak at a university here in the U.S., but those with HIV are not welcome?

Something isn’t right here.  Huh

We have quite enough people (generally the ignorant underclass) with HIV in this nation.

We don't need any more.

Why would we deny a visa to someone who could be of great benefit to this country based on this? If the person is infected with HIV, the only way an American could catch it is by behaving in known risky behavior. We have a safe blood supply in the US. Despite what Huckabee said, it's not a plague.

AIDS isn't the bane of the world's best and brightest.

The USA has a very lareg and a very diverse population. The policy makes sense to me.

We should welcome the best and brightest. HIV status should not be an issue. What does the size of the US population have to do with it?

The vast majority of AIDS victims come from filthy, Third World countries where men are too stupid to use condoms. I am for restricting the number of healthy immigrants from these regions let alone diseased individuals.

HIV status? Is that really a term?

They don't have bowls of food lying around either but Western dogooders are only to happy to supply both.

Fact: It was and may still be a prevalent delusion in Africa that the fear of AIDS was/is an attempt by Westerners to stop Black people from reproducing. I kid you not.

Yes, there's a blood test. A person can appear healthy but carry HIV antibodies. This means they are infected with HIV, i.e., their HIV status is positive.

Okay, so it seems your issue is that the US should have health standards with regard to immigrants? That's a legitimate issue. But why should HIV, which is not particularly contagious, be permanent "grounds for inadmissibility"?

if one one were really concerned about health issues it would be much smarter, cost effective, etc to screen for TB than HIV.

of course the first step ahead of all this would be to close the dang border.

i say again:
