The military budget of the United States is a staggering $548.9 billion. Do you know what 40% of $548.9 billion is?

Roughly $219.5 billion – what things we could do what that money!

For those whose math skills are less than stellar, 548.9 minus 219.5 is 329.4. With a military budget of $329.4 billion, we would still be number one, far ahead of France, whose military budget currently stands at $74.6 billion. If anyone speaks of a cut in the military budget, the warmongers panic as if our military would be reduced to the size of East Timor.

Am I the only person who believes militaries should be used for defense, and not for policing the rest of the world?

Who? Individual Americans or the government?

US military might is a substantial part of US influence.

It's actually a bargain, considering the force multiplication aspect of our cooperation with foreign allies.  Considering that everyone agrees that our troops are under-supplied and underpaid, I say that we need to cut foreign aid and put that money into our military budget.
