I'd like to read it, but I have a band audition to go to!  Wish me luck!

good luck! what part are you auditioning for?

-----------------------------------------------

as an aside, does anyone really think "Helter Skelter" inspired Manson to commit those murders? I don't. Just like Marilyn Manson didn't inspire the Columbine kids, and so on. I guess you can make the argument that movies, tv, music, video games are more graphic than they used to be, but kids always played with toy guns, cowboys and indians, GI joe, and so on. i'd blame the availability of the weapons.
pretend for a moment that you are a parent with a 13 year old teen.  would you allow your child unrestricted/monitored internet access??  would you allow them to watch graphically violent and sexual productions??  if your answer is yes than that is the end of the discussion.  if your answer is no, then why not?

did you ever see a playboy when you were 13? or younger? most boys are going to see those things regardless of whether a parent wants them to or not. being a good parent is more than just monitoring tv and/or internet. it's about teaching right from wrong. watching a skin flick is a world apart from taking an uzi to class.
did you actually answer the question?  no you did not, try again.  a straightforward yes or no will suffice.  again if your answer is no, why not?  you can do this commee, really you can.  whew, this grumpy lite encouraging positive stuff is tough.

Here's how it went.  I showed up and played one song (we had messed around with it before, kinda pulled it out our asses) and one of the guys told me they were playing a show in St. Cloud on the 29th, and that I should play with them. !!
I "hmmd" and "hahd" about it--explaining that I am VERY rusty at playing anything right now, and we drank some beer until everybody went home except me, the front man and his girlfriend.  Before we left, he said "thanks for agreeing to do the show with us.  You will not be getting paid."

"...Cool."

 Cheesy

Congrats Spunkloaf! I'm sure the experience will be valuable or memorable or hopefully both. Smiley

conley i reposted the original question to make it easier for you to consider.  you won't have to scroll back.  now this is tough because you want to say yes but rationality and honesty likely prevent you from doing so.  the answer you are searching for is no.  you would not allow your age 13 teen unrestricted access to the internet, nor would you allow them to watch graphically violent or explicitly sexual productions.  you would not do so because you know that this is not in the best interests of your still developing young teen.  i am sure that you gave this question some consideration and rather than conclude you are dodging the question, i must conclude that you have been occupied with other pressing issues.  if you do get time to consider this, your answer would be greatly appreciated, your shared thoughts are always enlightening.

grumpy, i think it's hilarious that you refuse to answer anyone else's questions, such as when i asked you your opinion of when life begin in the abortion thread, meanwhile someone doesn't  immediately reply to your bizarre off topic parenting questions and you get your panties in a wad. you're a funny guy.  Shocked Kiss

(rofl let's see how 'grumpy light' responds to this one }:-) )

actually i have never experienced the "wad" factor, likely due to my practice of always going commando.  freedom.  the question is not off topic.  we are discussing the impact of explicit video, etc...  i do not believe that someone as responsible and thoughtful as you so obviously are could answer the question yes with any degree of sincerity.  still if that is your answer then it is what it is.  i sense that you are still a young man and life has many lessons in store for you...

grumpy, what is your definition of sexual and violent?

if my teenager wanted to look at a playboy or watch Saving Private Ryan (a very bloody movie), i'd let him.

but i would keep *my* guns locked up very very tightly and he would have zero chance of getting his hands on them.

what ever happened to personal responsibility in this country? keep the kids and the guns separate and you won't need to worry about your kid playing his Xbox. don't blame the video game, blame yourself if your kid turns out a psycho.

Excellent point. Grumpy goes all nuts about the "nanny state" when talking about Social Security, universal health care, etc., but he's more than willing to limit personal responsibility when it comes to parenting. Grumpy wants the government to be the parent. "You can't play this video game, you can't look at that website, you can't listen to this song, etc."

I don't think that the Gump's solution has the word government in it.

But who else besides the government WOULD regulate games? Because the game manufacturers already rate and restrict games. And the ESRB is pretty strict.
Still it's the PARENTS who must be responsible. They can't just blame the games when their kids "go bad". They have to actually pay attention to what goes into their children's brains. As a child I never ONCE read a book or watched a cartoon that my Mom hadn't checked out first. (because of expenses, I didn't have video games until I was old enough to make my own choices on what to buy, but that's beside the point. She'd've done the same with the games). It takes a little time, but at least you know what your kids are getting into.
And if you object to something, DON'T BUY THE GAME. Don't try to get it banned. Just don't let your own kids have it.

i don't believe that i have gone on record of advocating anything.  i do believe that exposing the young and impressionable to graphically violent/sexual material does have a negative impact upon the individual and society in general.  but back to conley; so are you stating that there are not boundaries to what you would allow your teen to be exposed to?Huh

I can’t help but laugh when oh-so-moral Republicans and Holy Joe Democrats try to prevent violent video games from getting in the hands of teenagers. Blaming video games for youth violence is an ugly copout. Why not blame the parents?

Youth violence has absolutely nothing to do with video games, television or film. It has to do with bad parenting. If parents would bother to talk to their children about the difference between right and wrong, maybe, just MAYBE, things wouldn’t be so bad. Stop plopping your fat ass on the couch to watch television and talk to your children. BE A PARENT. It’s not the federal government’s job to take care of your children. It’s YOUR job. It’s YOUR responsibility.

(Note: When I use the term “Holy Joe Democrat,” I’m referring to Joe Lieberman. Just thought I’d clear that up now.)
Wow............. what a concept.... Dont let the donkeycrats hear you.
