I'm going to give you a truncated list of my beliefs and such…and then I'll get to the main point…
1. I am pro-life and would support a nationwide ban on abortion except in cases of rape and when the life of the mother is in danger.
I am pro-life too. But I am pro-abortion when a woman wants to have one. Banning is unconstitutional, and would be expensive.
2. I oppose affirmative action.
I had to look this one up. No comment.
3. I oppose gay marriage and would support a nationwide ban on gay marriage.
A nationwide ban on gay marriage would be unconstitutional, as would any other doctrine sanctioning marriage.
4. I support student prayer, but oppose the teaching of one religion in public schools.
I agree with this--but what is supporting student prayer? Are students punished for praying in school?
5. I support the death penalty and mandatory sentencing laws.
Hmm.
6. I support gun rights.
Me too.
7. I support moving towards a system of universal health care.
Well this is definitely a lefty thing, although I no longer support it--because I know insurance companies will turn our country into a prison if it does.
8. I oppose the privatization of Social Security and school vouchers.
Me too.
9. I support the War on Drugs, welfare reform and faith-based initiatives.
The war on drugs is also not capitalized. And it is a waste of money, and a war against our own people for doing their own thing. Welfare reform is a good idea, and so are faith-based initiatives.
10. I support restoring Clinton-era tax rates.
Cool.
11. I support sealing the border and oppose any Orwellian "comprehensive immigration reform" plan that puts illegal immigrants in the front of the line and forces law-abiding immigrants to wait even longer for citizenship.
"Orwellian?"
12. I oppose free trade and firmly believe in the principal of "Buy American or 'bye-'bye America."
Ok
13. I oppose campaign finance reform on the grounds that it violates the First Amendment.
Ok
14. I support ending the war in Iraq and increasing troop levels in Afghanistan.
Awesome!
And I'm a Democrat. I don't feel like I belong anymore. My party has been hijacked by extremists…and I can't stand it.
Should I become a Republican? Should I become an independent? Should I abandon the party I registered to join the day I was eligible?
Be independent, it is more honest, and in my opinion, patriotic.
