So many people have questions about all kinds of shady things having to do with the government.  Income taxes, 9/11, JFK, Watergate, the war in Iraq, big secretive business ties--

Come on.  Surely people who ask these questions, liberal or conservative, are not entirely stupid.

My question to everybody on these boards: considering that these are legitimate questions regarding "conspiracies" or denied information to the American public, where do you stand?  Do you simply believe what the government says?  Do you secretly know that they are doing dirty work, but you trust them?  Do you believe some of these things to be true, and just don't care?

Would you rather not comment due to your "patriotism"?

Regarding 9/11: this attack was not carried out by the federal government, and whoever thinks so should be beaten to a pulp. The federal government could have prevented it, though.

JFK: Shot in the head by one guy. That’s the only reason he’s popular now.

War in Iraq: Should not have gone in at all. Iraq was not a threat.

I believe very little that the government says.  That is why I support the Constitutional model of a limited federal government.

spunk you didn't pose any specific question, rather you seem to be asking generally if everybody believes the govt all the time.  of course the simple answer is no.

You are correct, grump.  I'm not asking anybody to believe all the conspiracies they hear--most are bullshit.

BUT...

The fact that the government does not address people's simple questions bugs me, and it should bug everybody.  It bugs me that they act like they're above it, or too involved with other things to care.

It only takes a republican to tell another off, I guess.

Chuck Hagel is a great America. He was the only one who had the guts to call out the ignorance of the Republican Party when the Iraq debate started. I don’t agree with a lot of his positions, but I respect his courage.

I really had no idea who he was, but yes--he had the balls to call out the bullshit.  Still, nobody gets the answer they want: "We lied.  Sorry."  They must have seminars about how to dodge questions.  Then again, political questions are NEVER to-the-point to begin with, so naturally they can't have a to-the-point answer.

To sum three minutes of discussion in this video:

Chuck Hagel: Did you lie?

Condi Rice: Yes, I lied.

Chuck Hagel: Are you a bad girl?

Condi Rice: Yes, I'm a very bad girl.

Chuck Hagel: Who's your daddy?

Condi Rice: You are, Mr. Hagel.

Chuck Hagel: Thank you for your time Dr. Rice.

I don't buy too much into it anymore.  I wasn't there, I can't observe the evidence, and I'll have to wait until 2038 to find out what the government knew about it.

Needless to say, when the information does get released and if we find out there was some kind of bullshit, I WILL react to it, and others will too.

I wonder if they have security measures already in place for that day?  Grin

I could never tap that shit.  Her face looks like cook-n-serve chocolate pudding.
I hate cook-n-serve; it always has that nasty filmy crust on the top, and the stuff at the bottom is always burned.  Give me instant any day.

I don't know about this. Addressing conspiracy theories are a waste of time in my opinion. Though, if they did I think I would find it amusing.

Regarding the 911 inside-job CTs, even after bill clinton addressed it with his great comment, "shame on you" nothing has changed.

Can you really imagine Bush or any other gov't member holding a press conference to explain why the "amero" is bullshit? (Amero as opposed to the euro.)? Or Bill Clinton answering questions regarding any involvement in the Ron Brown accident or how he ran a drug ring as governor?

JFK's CTs I am extremely sceptical about. I just don't see any gain for the dems or the gov't for plotting an assassination just to install McDonalds franchises in vietnam as one theory goes. For stone's movie, there is a website dedicated to  countering.it which i thought was pretty good. I'd happily post the link at request if anyone is interested but a quick google.search should find it easily.

CT's in this country are more or less harmless despite the  accusations of many of them. So to answer the question, I am glad the gov't doesn't waste time entertaining such topics for discussion.

Ok.  I explained my stand on these conspiracies, and I said most are bullshit.  But the question remains, why doesn't the government answer IMPORTANT questions?  And why aren't IMPORTANT questions asked?

It's okay.  I think I found a part to my own answer.

"There was a time in South Africa when people would put flaming tires around people's necks if they dissented.  And in some ways, with fear, you think you'll be necklaced here with a flaming tire of lack of patriotism put around your neck.  Now it's that fear that keeps journalists from asking the toughest of the tough questions."
