So says McSame's chief political strategist -- Charlie Black. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an "unfortunate event," says Black. "But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us." As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. "Certainly it would be a big advantage to him," says Black.

While McCain did condemn what Black said he did nothing to explain why he didn't agree with Black. Obama capitalized on it, of course.

McCain "strenuously disagreed" with his own chief political strategist but didn't fire him?

the fact remains it is true. just as the republicans were able to use 9/11 to their advantage, similarly another terrorist strike on american soil would help the republicans. obviously none of us want that, but they are the party of war and we are at war, whether people in this country believe it or not. unfortunately it may take another 9/11 to bring that point home.

That is a shameful thought to both say and think. I work with a lot of people, whom by some blessing in disguise are here today. I would be offended at any mention of this if I were one of them. Well, i guess i am a little offended by this thought.

It is offensive that something like 9-11 would be used for political gain. Many of my co-workers whom i consider friends were fn lucky on that day. To accuse someone of using it as a political advantage is just as horrible as someone who did use it. IMO. This stuff just should not be said. More importantly, i can't imagine someone riding this into any political position. Even for a politician! Which suggests that the accuser is doing exactly what he is accusing.

I think Bored was referring to Charlie Black, who basically said that Americans dying in a terrorist attack is a good thing because it benefits John McCain. I was in lower Manhattan when the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993. I'm very thankful I wasn't there in 2001...

Ah ok, i thought you were offended by what i sad. I believe no politician would ever want something like 9/11 to happen. at the same time, it did help giuliani's image and made him a legit candidate for the republican presidential nomination. it also gave dubya power he would not have had otherwise. after 9/11 the country did unite behind him.

Yes, i wasn't commenting to your comments. Honestly, for the average joe, I put a much higher priority at such comments then I do someone seeking national attention. Political or otherwise. At least if they are done in good taste.
I agree with you regarding W and guliani. In the latter case, i don't think he sought the presidency because of 9-11 though it did put his name in the spotlight. Maybe realizing this caused him not to be aggressive at the candidacy. For bush, 9-11 changed our world. He was given powers that are required in a post 9-11 world. This is not a good thing, but rather a tragic necessity.

What were you all doing when 9/11 happened?
I was in school. Junior year. I skipped out after I heard because I wanted to go watch the news at home.
This was when I was indifferent about W. I remember being afraid for W when the news talked about him and Cheney being flown to an un-disclosed location.
I don't think I was ever more scared for my country in my life time.

I was at work. Working in the back warehouse when one of the women I worked with came down and told us both towers were hit by planes. When we tuned into the radio right when the first tower to get hit was collapsing. We all sat in shock and listened. It was quite unusual come to think of it. Every day in warehouse we would have the radio on by ritual. Oddly, this day we did not.
The company I work for now lost the most employees that day out of all the companies that were in the Trade center. 600+. Whenever I find out that someone worked in the WTC I always ask them about the day. Just this morning I bumped into a co-worker in the subway whom I am quite friendly with so we started chatting. I found out that she has been working for the company since the late 90s and immediately made the connection. She said she had been laid off the day before. ....Imagine that for a second.... roughly 3 years with a company and 1 more day would have meant certain death....
