First off, let me clear by stating that ANY politician who tried to take political advantage of a terrorist attack where people died should be sent to gitmo.
However, would a terrorist attack really benefit republicans? Let's face it ... dear leader has gotten pretty much everything he's asked for. When he didn't, he just violated the law and did what he damn well pleased. He has insisted over and over and over again that we are SAFER.
A successful terrorist attack would be just one more example of the failed, incompetent leadership exhibited by republicans.

What were you all doing when 9/11 happened?
I was in school. Junior year. I skipped out after I heard because I wanted to go watch the news at home.
This was when I was indifferent about W. I remember being afraid for W when the news talked about him and Cheney being flown to an un-disclosed location.
I don't think I was ever more scared for my country in my life time.
I turned the TV on after my mom in law called me crying oh my god we are being attacked (I am getting that same feeling again just atlking about it) I was freakin pissed off for like a month. I wanted action......I wanted them all dead....all those people burned alive....jumpin to thier deaths.....everytime I think of that day it reaffirms my belief that we need to win this war....and establish stability in the middle east by force if necessary.....and crush any terrorist camp that pops up like in clear and present danger. Let the world know that terror will no the tolerated

OBL didn't attack us either. Terrorists did. He is a leader/mentor of a political and islamic fundamental international terrorist movement and certainly had a huge part in the attack. But this is the difference. Until the left recognizes this, we cannot fight and win in a global war against terror. It's against this movement, not OBL. They claim no country but live and breed in them all.

I agree with this part of the statement. Let's hope they don't. But what happens if Obama wins and we happen to get attacked. Still an example of the failed, incompetent leadership exhibited by republicans. I avoid defending bush because 1) I don't like him or most Republican politicians 2) if he really did anything wrong, he should be tried. No dems support this obviously so either they are even more guilty than he is or just realize that there is a difference between what people think and what people know. 3) it wastes waaay to much time looking shit up. 4) I'm never that 'bored'

That is true and how convenient for the terrorist not to have a country that is solely responsible for the actions of rogue extremists. The answer can never be appeasement with these rats

The answer can never be appeasement with these rats The answer clearly requires a vast improvement in our intelligence capabilities, cooperation between the US and foreign intelligence agencies, cooperation between the US and local law enforcement worldwide, and systematic diplomatic pressure (with consequences) on nations that don't help us, not unlike what Bush suggested before he decided to invade and occupy Iraq. Putting all that effort into one country makes NO sense.

I agree. Intelligence agencies certainly require upgrade. All of our agents and technologies have been designed for cold war times and are now obsolete to face the new enemy. We have to accept our losses and begin an entire era from scratch.
Another reality: The world is not ready to face the new enemy. Until that day comes we have to be on the defensive.
What Bush did in Iraq will at best only pacify the inevitable.

They are not obsolete. Our Cold War era agencies were truly badass. It is the post-war, kinder, gentler agencies that are a joke. They are a joke because some of us demanded that they be a joke.

I was referring to technologies. Our agents we taught to blend into soviet societies, speak fluent russian, etc. Our technology was top notch for decoding and intercepting soviet messages. Things like this.
I don't question that we have capabilities to put to use, but odds are they are not from the cold war era.

the long and the short of this thread is that not even dems/libs trust dems/libs to make adult decisions in the adult world of national security.

The long/short of this thread is that since 9/11 fine, patriotic conservative republicans have been in charge and have NOT DONE A FUCKING THING to change the CIA.
Yeah that's the dems fault alright. ya'll must be dyslexic -- you consistently try to blame democrats for things that occurred while fine, patriotic conservative republicans are in charge.

You are partially correct, gunnit. But the left had very little to contribute to debate and took the position more of a roadblock of Bush/repubs than anything else. Let's not forget the celebration when they "shot down the patriot act.
