Does anyone know Powell’s views on abortion?

Once they are known he is going to lose a lot of support from one of the two sides.

Does anyone know his views on the proper role of the federal government?  Does anyone know his views on taxation?

These big issues will only result in his poll numbers dropping once his positions are known.  This does not mean that he couldn’t win; it only means that no man will be held in has high regard in the abstract as when his policy positions are on the table.

I'm not sure about the rest, but Powell is pro-choice.
Why is killing babies a priority for Democrats?

Why is overpopulating the world a priority with you? Eugenics is the path to a more rational and humane earth.

Democrats created the term "Betrayus" because General Petraeus told the "truth" about the Al Qaida being defeated in Iraq.

You can believe anything you want -- but petraeus earned that nickname from the folks he was leading. Admiral Fallon, while commander of Mid-East forces , even called him “an ass kissing little chicken shit”

My son in law, retired from 82nd airborne as E-9 and is still serving with 82nd as GS12 safety inspector says all soldiers he speaks with have great respect for petraeus. I trust what he says.

Well, if you talked to people who served under Fallon you might get similar answers.

I wouldn't be too sure about st. petraus' political ambitions. Last year when he was getting ready to give his big speech before congress, some bloggers did some research and found a lot of comments on military blogs ... seems like the lower level soldiers didn't think a whole lot about petraus. They are the ones who actually coined the phrase "betrayus" (that's where moveon got the phrase). Seems like he fancies himself as a modern day Ike and that he really does want to run for president some day.

So it wouldn't surprise me if McSame picks him.

I never heard a soldier complain about Petraus.  When he would drop by our base soldiers would stand in long lines to shake his hand and get pictures with him.  Petraus is loved by the soldiers who serve in Iraq.  It was Petraus’ strategy and tactics that turned the tide in Iraq and gave us victory.

Note: no commander in Iraq will use the term victory, but we have almost done everything possible militarily in Iraq.  AQI is crushed and the residual sectarian violence is normal and we can do nothing about it.

so peter who was until recently in iraq never heard a soldier "complain" about petraus.  in fact the troops would stand in line to shake his hand.  on the other hand gunnit, when exactly were you in iraq and what troops did you converse with???   regardless, the nyt, being the standard of dem/lib expression on any subject felt it fit to smear the commander of our forces in combat.  mrs bill, accused petraus of lying.  unfortunately for the left the success in iraq can no longer be denied.

I realize that I may not have been nit-picky clear on this, but I never meant to imply that ALL soldiers feel the same way about petraeus. I'm sure there are many different opinions -- just like 6 times the number of soldiers are donating money to Obama over McSame. They are all entitled to their opinion.

And let's see just exactly what st. petraues is saying:

Quote
Gen. David Petraeus, top commander of coalition military forces in Iraq, recently sat down with Newsweek to do a “valedictory” interview before he takes up his new post as CENTCOM commander next month.

Newsweek reported that while Petraeus recognized that al-Qaeda in Iraq has been significantly diminished, he refused to say the terror group had been “defeated.” Moreover, Petraeus acknowledged that the recent successes in Iraq may have been possible without the surge:

Petraeus is careful not to credit all the progress to the surge of U.S. troops in 2007. The sea change came last year from a series of movements now known as the Awakening. […] So would the Sunni Awakening have succeeded without the surge? Possibly, he concedes.

And remember, McSame just recently called him one of the three wisest folks on the whole fucking planet and he was a POW for 5 1/2 years without a kitchen table, so he wouldn't lie to us ... would he  Huh

Colin Powell?

OH, YOU MEAN THIS GUY?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL      UGLY STUFF!

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell donned a hard hat and tucked a hammer in his belt Friday, performing a version of the Village People's hit "YMCA" at the conclusion of Asia's largest security meeting in Indonesia.

Tradition dictates that the meeting wrap up with a night of song and dance, provided by the diplomats themselves.

In 1997 Madeleine Albright, then secretary of state, bowled over the ministers when she performed a musical skit dressed as Evita Peron.

On Friday, Powell danced in Jakarta alongside five other U.S. officials sporting costumes that included an Indian headdress.

The group blasted out a version of the 1970s disco classic, to the delight of foreign ministers from across the Asia-Pacific and Europe.

"President Bush, he said to me: 'Colin, I need you to run the Department of State. We are between a rock and a hard place," Powell and his colleagues sang to the tune of the disco classic.

The after-dinner show is an annual highlight of the ASEAN Regional Forum, a time for ministers to loosen up after discussing security issues.

The event is closed to the press, but reporters regularly go out of their way to get the scoop.

The Russian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, sang a version of the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" as a woman waving a Russian flag ran around the dinner tables.

In the past soldiers were primarily republican if they identified with politics at all.  Today there is a larger mix of political affiliation (dems and independents).  A lot of it is young soldiers just being against the establishment- you can’t really be against the establishment on the job so political ideology is a good place for it.  But soldiers, whatever their political affiliation like Petraus.  Why?  Because his strategy wins.  It is that simple.  Soldiers love to win- all the more so when they are taking casualties.

The moral of combat soldiers in Iraq is astronomically high considering the circumstances.  (Not so among the Fobbits- the combat support that don’t leave post (not to be mistaken with the truck drivers and their convoy escorts).)   Make no mistake, these young men and women are the new Greatest Generation.  They are going to do this nation proud in their post-military lives.

I have no doubt that some disgruntled soldiers are bad-mouthing everyone in command.  By disgruntled soldiers I mean those that are punished by court-martial or non-judicial punishment.  They are soured by any authority and it would be natural for them to talk trash about the command.  And it is even more natural for the press to seek these soldiers out and portray their views as mainstream.
