When McCain was asked last year at a Candidates@Google event how his GPA compared to President Bush’s C average at Yale, McCain offered up some straight talk, my friends: McCain: My GPA earned me fifth from the bottom of my class at the Naval Academy status. So, the GPA was based –since that was in the Coolidge administration it was a different measurement, but I can assure you in today’s standards it would be barely passing.

They say highly intelligent men tend to make poor Presidents (eg Nixon). There is a clip on YouTube of Chris Hitchens putting Bill Maher and his audience in their place. It was hiliarious. Maher made one of his usual "Bush is dumb" jokes, the audience chuckled knowingly, and Hitchens tore into them all. I'll have to look for it. He said that this is the kind of joke that stupid people laugh at. It makes them feel like someone. He told the audience that Bush is smarter than them all. It was great.

George W. Bush is not a bright man.
He is not a conservative.
That is why BIGTEX has never voted for him in any presidential primary or general election.
Nontheless, he is still much, much more intelligent than Al Gore or Barack Obama.
Have you any questions?

I do not think we needed to hear from McCain himself to realize that quite obvious fact.

GPA does not directly correlate to intelligence. An unintelligent person could obtain a respectable GPA if he applied himself. A genius could graduate at the bottom of her class if she did no work and party instead. I would suspect that most politicians have slightly above-average intelligence (along with massive ego).

Who are some of these politicians that you feel are of slightly above-average intelligence? I believe Russ Feingold and Joe Biden are the most intelligent members of the Senate. Either of them would make a much stronger Majority Leader than Harry Reid.

I would place Bush, McCain, Hillary, Kerry, Edwards, Reagan, etc in the slightly above average IQ range- meaning 110-120. Most politicians likely fall in this range. Neither Feingold nor Biden has struck me as having anything above an average intelligence- not that this is an impediment to their being better as Majority Leader than Reid. That is just my impression.
If you have an IQ of much above average you should not be wasting your talents in politics.

Here's another good response to the "Bush is dumb" zombies: http://www.ejectejecteject.com/archives/000136.htmlScroll down (or read the whole thing its a great essay, and I think I might have even linked it for you in the past...if so sorry for the redundancy and ridiculously long parenthetical) to the "War of the Bumper Stickers" portion. I really like Bill Whittle's essays. Meat.

Love this line! George W. Bush is not stupid. It?s not possible to be a moron and fly a supersonic jet fighter, and everyone knows it.
What George W. Bush is, however, is inarticulate. English is his second language. From what I can see he does not have a first language.

Hahahaha! At Tony Snow's funeral, President Bush made fun of his communication skills ... "As a speechwriter in my Dad's administration, Tony tried to translate the President's policies into English. As a spokesman in my administration, Tony tried to translate my English into English.

neither mccain nor bush seem very good at math WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican John McCain says he raised more than $21 million in June, his best month so far in terms of fundraising. McCain's campaign also spent nearly $26 million, more than double what he spent in May. Most of that went toward advertising. I guess this is what we have to look forward to from either candidate -- DEFICITS ...clearly mccain is not fiscally responsible, and as he himself admits, numbers and economics makes his head spin. Maybe we can get Cindy to pay the difference?

i know that it was not your intention, but you raise an interesting point. suppose that little mac receives an infusion of cash from his spouse. should her finances be open to public scrutiny?? i believe so, for the same reasons that i stated with regard to the clintons.
