Will Obamas position on gun control hurt him in the general election? Do liberals beleive in the 2nd amendment? Or only parts of the Constitution they like?
BTW alot of Democrats voted to go to war gunnit.......because your best friend cannot go to war without the approval of congress.

A lot of democrats voted for war because they were chickenshits who didn't want to face ads like Max Cleland (Senator from Georgia) faced in his re-election campaign -- not because they believed it was necessary.
Just in case you don't know, Max Cleland earned a Silver Star in a bloody battle in Vietnam. A week before he was due to return home, he volunteered to go on a mission (he could have stayed at the base) so he could goodby to some of his friends. A grenade fell out of a comrades belt and he lost his legs and an arm.
Anyway, he opposed dear leaders plan to strip all employees (even the clerical staff and janitors) in the Department of Homeland Security of their civil service rights. Then all those fine, patriotic conservative republicans ran ads showing him morphing into OBL.

I spoke with a man yesterday, a democrat, who is voting for mccain because of his stand on gun control. To me that is the least important issue but for some, very important. My son in law claims that the majority of soldiers he talked to were all for McCain and totally against obama.

I just sent in my application for a long arms ID. It's called a Firearms Purchase ID or something. I can't get a pistol but I can any of the antique rifles I blabber about from time to time here. Why do I need a permit for a rifle that was old before the First World War started? I don't know...

I am not aware of Senator Obama’s position on gun control, but whatever it is I hope he’ll work with Congress to reduce gun-related violence in America.
We need to prevent those with criminal records from acquiring handguns. We need to prevent those with mental disabilities from acquiring handguns. We need to close the gun show loophole. We can take these steps to reduce gun-related violence without violating the rights of law-abiding citizens.

I have heard the argument that if a student at Virginia Tech had a handgun, he or she could have stopped the nutcase from doing as much damage. This doesn’t make sense to me. Would YOU let a hormonal teenager have a weapon? That’s like giving a teenager a box of condoms. If you give it to them, they’ll use it.

The 1st amendment guarantees the right to free speech ... yet that's been restricted by the Supreme Court. The 4th amendment guarantees that I have a right against unreasonable search and seizures ... yet people like you are willing to give that right up cuz you're peeing your pants over the big, bad, brown, boogie-man. What makes the 2nd amendment more sacred than the others

the courts have given great deference to first amendment rights, hopefully campaign finance is an aberration and not a harbinger of things to come. there has been no violation of "unreasonable" search and seizure, of course unreasonable is your middle name. regarding the second amendment; "...that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it..." absent the second amendment, this statement and the constitution in its entirety is meaningless.
