"Scaybeeez:Quote from: bored on July 11, 2008, 03:48:52 PMWhen was the pursuit of happiness supposed to be given to someone? They have happiness. They choose to make a minority of themselves They choose to be gay?  Versus what?  Living a lie?"

People choose to be gay just as one choose to be in love, get married or even get divorced.

People choose to be in love? Shocked Are you a robot? Wink

I think that when people are attracted to one another they choose to act – or not- on that attraction.  Love has a stronger pull than mere attraction.

I hope not.Cheesy It is clearly a choice. I choose to love my wife and I chose to marry her. If I divorce her it is because I chose to not because I no longer love her.

Bored, what do you mean exactly? I assumed you were speaking of love as a feeling, but maybe you are defining it differently. Your actions are clearly a choice. Your emotions aren't.

The debate on whether homosexuality is a natural occurrence or personal choice is silly. Homosexuality hurts nobody. If two men want to have sex with each other in the privacy of their bedroom, that should be their business and their business alone.

I believe marriage to be a religious institution. Government intervention is almost always a bad thing, and it is definitely a bad thing in this case.

I certainly agree that the best result would have been for the State to keep its nose out of marriage.

But it has not- marriage is regulated by the State.  Whether we consider this to be a separate matter from traditional, religious marriage or not- should the State sanction same sex marriage?  I see no harm from it.

No Vermouth, I am speaking of love as a feeling but I am defining it differently. Though, love for ones children is not the same as love for a spouse. This, I believe is instinctive. However, love for a husband or a wife is something of a choice in my opinion. It is not a real emotion. I still call it love, but it a choice as is homosexuality. Certainly not something that one is born with.

I first heard this about 8-10 years ago when a woman I knew was getting married said this. She had been counseled this during a class that the church gave to all couples planning to marry. Instinctively, I didn't believe it but after much thought it made sense to me and now I'm in agreement with it.
