the saudi goverment certainly gave us permission to stay at their base .... but that royally pissed off the best student the CIA had in Afghanistan (bin Laden), who had a large group of devoted followers who would follow his orders and the weapons and warfare skills we taught him. When he got a hard-on to attack the US, he did it cuz he could. Just like georgie when he wanted to attack Iraq.

I'm curious as to what makes you say that.  I mean, sure, our troops did eventually leave Saudi Arabia, but they didn't leave the region - they simply hopped over to Iraq.  bin Laden has been pretty clear all along that his goal is to drive the U.S. from the Muslim world so of course moving them over to Iraq wouldn't have resulted in a cessation of hostilities.
