was this actually a debate? stayed up well past my bedtime and was quite dissappointed. no mention of ayers, wright, keating, nothing. only one revelation throughout the evening which i will speak of later. impressions; the audience looked like they had been pulled directly off the set of night of the living dead. one old black dude in particular had no idea why he was there and what the hell he was reading. if he hadn't been sleeping under a bridge 10 minutes prior to show time i'd be stunned. the actors; little mac looked very unsteady early on. he kind of wandered aimlessly about, gravitating to his stool and didn't seem able to complete a sentence without looking at his notes. he reminded me of the old guy in the bar, who has had 2-3 too many and can't find his bar stool or maybe grandpa, somebody help grandpa, he's forgotten where the bathroom is again. be sure to remind him why he wanted to go to the bathroom in the first place...... in his defense he steadied out and became the uninspiring drone we know him to be. bo though average was mostly steady. a few quiet gaffes. on one occasion he actually stated the point he was arguing against! on another when asked to prioritize energy, entitlements and healthcare....he totally left entitlements off the list or did he? i hope people were listening when brokaw dragged him into committing to a "right" to health care, the creation of yet another entitlement! we can discuss the ramifications of this disclosure later. neither candidate made a convincing commitment to reducing govt although little mac did mention an across the board freeze while bo went looking for a scalpel and spoke in line item terminology. (right to healthcare and line item authority....is this guy really a constitutional law pseudo professor?) if i were scoring this it would be a draw. little mac was very unsteady early, bo was well less than spectacular, his usually vague self and should never discuss national security issues in the same room as little mac. having said that, bo is the clear winner in the case of a draw, needing only to run out the clock.

I thought it was somewhat boring also. I think the big reason for that is for people like us, who pay close attention to what both candidates are saying, all we hear are the same talking points that are said over and over and over and over again at rallies and in interviews. We don't hear anything new ... well ... there was mccain's new $300 billion mortgage bail out idea ... on top of the $700 billion bailout ... oops excuse me "rescue plan" ... which if you believe the pundits this morning was not a gaffe, but an actual "new" idea. The thud you heard last night was the sound of conservatives jaws dropping and hitting the ground at the same moment when he uttered those words.
Some folks over at Daily KOS who have the stomach to venture over to freeper-land at freerepublic.com noticed that even freepers have had it with mccain and that ... "my friends" ... is serious.
I have mixed feelings about the "guilt by association" crap that seems to be the only thing the right has to bitch about not being discussed last night. On the one hand, it would have been great to see if mccain had the gonads to say the things that's being said at rallies directly to Obama's face and have Obama respond. On the other hand ... this is not the stuff people want mccain/Obama to be talking about. They want to hear what they are going to do with the economy, healthcare and foreign policy. And looked at from that perspective, the people won.

Content aside, Obama performed better. I expected McCain to excel in this environment but his responses were wobbly, uninspired, and he missed several opportunities to make obvious points. Obama appeared confident, knowledgeable and more likeable than usual in this format, but said nothing new and made a couple of misstatements. The audience and their questions were not impressive, but Brokaw did a decent job.
McCain said twice that he would give a $5000 tax credit to "every American" for healthcare, but that's wrong - his proposal is $2500 per individual, $5000 per family. (Americans with employee-sponsored insurance would have to pay taxes on the difference between $2500 and the actual value their insurance.)

I believe that McCain has a hard time with being ugly. I personally think this should be brought out as many who do not watch politics that much are unaware of it, believe me, most people don't follow this crap like the ones on this board. Sarah is socking it to obama and is darn good at it. I truly believe that one day she will be a real force in politics and would not surprise me is she is not president one day. We have some rising stars in the republican party. obama will be a one termer and hopefully he and his liberal croonies don't completly destroy this country. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way, and obama will certainly teach them this. They will be so ready to rid themselves of him and the liberals in 2012.

I have known for a time now that obama will win. According to my astrology readings. Also, this country will suffer greatly during the next several years, a strong chance of a major attack. People will so wish they had McCain as their president. According to the US chart and obama's and McCain's, looks like its obama. But we will be so sorry. I hope this is not the case but astrology does not lie.

putting content aside is a prerequisite to listening to bo.

I've seen plenty of posts from you that have consisted of little more than calling people you disagree with "idiots". That's at least as indicative of a desire, on your part, to shut people up as anything Spunk has ever posted...
