this quote from the article is actually a huge complement to Dubya, though the woman being quoted obviously has no clue and meant it as an insult:

"George W. Bush appointed the first two black secretaries of state, but does anyone on the left regard him as a racial trailblazer? When I raised that question to another liberal, she dismissed the idea, saying Bush "never thought about race."

if you believe in free markets and capitalism, why not let these journalism outfits report what they want?

i dont understand this constant whining. the new york times is liberal, fox news is conservative, it is what it is. these are private companies that are supported financially by their customers who want the news delivered with a liberal or conservative bend.

You are right. I just wish the news organizations would admit it.

OswaldTheOsprey

yes, that's true...

another point i'd make is that double standard seems to exist for palin versus the three men...when palin gets attacked she's being picked on but when mccain or obama gets slammed its not unexpected. i know the point has been made before but to me that is sexist. i think it's human nature for us all though, when we see a woman being attacked we are more likely to get upset than if a male career politician is the one being ridiculed.

Well, it didn't help Hillary Clinton earlier this year. I do see and understand what you are saying.

OswaldTheOsprey

good point...i think hillary having been around for so long as a pol made her seem less like a victim. plus people like grumpy and others on the far right have repeatedly made crass jokes about hill not being a female, etc. i think we as americans think of palin sort of as our mom/sister and think of hillary like a lesbian cousin. jokes aside though palin is a lot more feminine imo than hillary.

Perhaps. I am still thinking that the attacks on Palin are as cultural as they are sexist.

OswaldTheOsprey

in terms of her being an outdoorswoman from a rural area?

she and her husband have done quite well financially...her documents aren't in yet but all signs suggest her family has more money than both the bidens and the obamas

i still think of the republicans as the elitists, the dems, however misguided their programs have been, in my opinion seem more concerned about the poor

She has been mocked for her religious beliefs, her accent-things a Democrat would not have to face. As for money, what about Kennedy & Kerry? Don't get me wrong-I'm voting Obama. I just don't think it is a holy crusade like some do.

oh, i'm not saying top rank dems are not wealthy...not at all. like you said to run for president you either need to be rich or have rich friends. and even if you're not rich, like bill clinton, by the time you finish (and start your speaking tours/consulting/lobbying efforts/etc ) you will be....

she has been mocked for her religion in terms of beliving in creationism. obama has been mocked for being a muslim and for the questionable teachings of his church. no one really mocked john edwards for his southern accent, but they mock his hair...having said all that,

there is a smugness and elitist mentality for many liberals, that's true. i guess i was thinking that republicans represent the wealthy society in government, but among non-politicians common every day citizens i agree with you that the left seems to think themselves more intelligent, less racist, etc than their counterparts on the right

I attack Palin because she is just horrible.  I also attack the fact that McCain chose her because of Hillary's "feminist" wake.  It was a very smart move to WIN the election--but not a smart pick for VPOTUS.

FOX clobbers the other networks in ratings so it is certainly plausible that more Democrats watch it than any other.

not really. the liberal viewers are divided amongst all the channels other than fox (msnbc, cnn, cnn headline news, the others, and the big three networks)

fox is really the only alternative for center-right news.

I'm sure not many liberals watch FOX but that isn't the same as "Democrats". YOu make a good point though that there isn't much out there besides FOX for the center-Right.

Well, to be fair, there is a smug and elite mentality pervading the center-right and center-left. Trotskyite Neocons and Cultural Marxists are both badly infected with arrogance. For this reason, I get a lot of my news from independent non-conformist sites of both the right and left. These include counterpunch.org, vdare.com, antiwar.com, Takismag.com, dailykos.com and others.

I don't think I've turned msnbc on in a long time. Maybe a year or more? I used to watch Alan Keyes' short lived show. He was on at 10PM if I recall. This was back when msnbc couldn't decide how to combat FOX. They flirted for a while with Right wing commentators. You might even say they were trying to outfox FOX. I am too funny.  Smiley
