"Rising concern about the environmental crisis is sweeping the nation's campuses with an intensity that may be on its way to eclipsing student discontent over the war in Vietnam...a national day of observance of environmental problems...is being planned for next spring...when a nationwide environmental 'teach-in'
Why aren't these students being taught that energy companies spend Billion$$$ each year developing new technologies to harness pollution and use it as an energy source?

They are being taught that.  They should be taught more.

Companies are doing a fine job making their energy use more efficient, without help from the government.  That is a concern not just for global warming, but mainly for the energy crisis.  It also means companies are not throwing money away on wasted energy, and it all adds up.  Energy efficiency can better our economy, if we take our "global warming" blinders off and look at the benefits of it.

You don't need to associate Earth day with global warming, Al Gore, or carbon credits wow.  Earth day is everybody's day, and it's conjured for people to reflect on how to keep the planet clean and enjoyable for generations to come.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and you cannot tie profiteering to that in any way.

Happy Earth Day!

Kudos.  Every day should be our birthdays too!  I think we'd get tired of it though and it would eventually lose its flame....
Damn, we're so easily bored with things!

I spent it in an auditorium enduring my biennial pesticide licensing training.  Seriously.  I'm ready for 2 more years of killing bad things.

Congrats.

I find corn breeding to be fascinating, where they develop strains that are immune to and kill certain pests.  That's bad ass.

Educated people do stuff like that.  Integrated management of pest control ("Pest" meaning disease, undesirable plants, and undesirable animals.)  Ignorant people try to bring the leading nations down to the level of the polluters and the abusers of the planet, in precisely the same way that the Kyoto Accord tries to deny America her rightful position at the top of the world.
