The insane leader of Iran is playing a very dangerous game.  It seems that the religious leaders, who hold the true power in Iran, are trying to contain Ahmadinejad

Ahmadinejad has always been a devotee of the Mahdi, the twelfth imam of Shiite Islam, who Shiites believe disappeared more than a thousand years ago and who will return one day to usher in a new era of peace and harmony.
But in a speech to theology students broadcast by state television on Monday, Ahmadinejad went further than ever before in emphasising his belief that the Mahdi is playing a critical role in Iran's day-to-day politics.
The return on the 12th Imam heralds the Shiite version of Armageddon. 

At least the “Combatant Clerics” are trying to moderate Ahmadinejad’s extremism.

"If Ahmadinejad wants to say that the hidden imam is supporting the decisions of the government, it is not true," sniped Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moghadam, the spokesman of the conservative Association of Combatant Clerics.
"For sure, the hidden imam does not approve of inflation of 20 percent, the high cost of living and numerous other errors," he said, according to the Kargozaran daily.
Ali Asghari, a member of the conservative Hezbollah faction in parliament, told the president not to link the management of the country to the imam.
"Ahmadinejad would do better to worry about social problems like inflation ... and other terrestrial affairs," Etemad Melli daily quoted him as saying.

Probably less Americans have died at the hands of Iranian’s over here than Soviets did at the hands of the US during their Afghan campaign.  It is the way things are done in international relations.  We should not whine about it.

I think that we should agree with the Iranians that there are no Iranian troops or agents in Iraq.  That way when we catch them we can summarily execute them and the Iran cannot complain because there are no Iranians here.

i don't give a damn about the soviets and afghanistan and it is irrelevant to the conversation unless you desire to play a game of moral relevance tit for tat.  as for whining i advocate that we stop whining and blow the shit out of iran.  do it completely, do it on a way over the top scale.  do and employ whatever it takes to make sure that nothing in that god forsaken shit hole flies, floats or is within 100 miles of the border.  let the arab world take one lesson from this...don't fuck with us.

The obliterate Iran option, however desirable it is, will not be used (unless Iran nukes Israel).  That is why my option would be to summarily execute any Iranian soldier or intelligence agent caught in Iraq.  Hey, if they aren’t in Iraq it isn’t wrong, right?

just when did you become connected with reality regarding foreign policy?  in the future we will have to deal with iran directly or cede the middle east.  i would rather deal with them right now prior to their obtaining nuclear capability.  and yes i would use tactical nukes if necessary.

Ahmadinejad is up for reelection next year, right? If the mullahs and conservatives are displeased with him, I don't see how he has a chance.
