I don't think that it's pointless because it may have more to do with taxes.

How would that make it less pointless? It is fun to discuss but basically, except for the parties directly involved, it is pointless.

OswaldTheOsprey

It is pointless.  It just pisses me off, because people say that the poor are spineless, moral-less villians who take anything they can get without EARNING IT, and here I find a story which says the same thing about rich people.

Voltaire said that "behind every great fortune lies a crime". Very true in his day and ours.

LOL
Yea, it's a crime to work hard.......in the Socialist world!

The Morgans, the Kennedys, the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, the Mellons, the Gates, et al-sweet little angels one and all! Some of us are not so dumb as to get the heebie jeebies every time some one yells "Socialist"! Grow up!

Even the wealthy have problems with keeping their homes, it seems.
It's good to know that they are WELL TAKEN CARE OF though, by other rich fuckers they never even met.  How touching.

Whatever.  Who am I to judge?  I'm sure they are both DESERVING individuals, being as they can afford such things.  Here's the story.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Donald Trump will soon be Ed McMahon's landlord.

Trump announced Thursday he would save the television personality's Beverly Hills mansion from foreclosure by buying it for an undisclosed amount and leasing it to McMahon.

The developer told the Los Angeles Times he doesn't know McMahon personally, but acted out of compassion because helping out "would be an honor."

McMahon, 85, who was Johnny Carson's sidekick on the "Tonight" show for three decades, has not worked for about 18 months because of a neck injury. He defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with Countrywide Financial Corp.

McMahon's spokesman, Howard Bragman, told The Associated Press that paperwork on the sale had not been completed but that McMahon was "very optimistic" the deal would go through.

"When I was at the Wharton School of Business I'd watch him every night," Trump told the Times. "How could this happen?"

McMahon bought the six-bedroom, five-bathroom, 7,000-square-foot house in January 1990. The home was listed at $4.6 million last weekend — down from a peak price of $7 million.

My only point here is that the poor are not the only ones who fuck up--yet they appear to be the only ones who get shit on for their mistakes.  A rich man can squander his money on a huge, comfortable and unnecessary home space (when, even after the foreclosure, he can still afford a nice house to live in) and STILL strike a sob chord with other rich people who think it's tragic enough to donate their money to it.

I don't ever want to hear again that poor people depend on hand outs, or deserve the lifestyle they live in, because the same apparently goes for the well-off.

Yeah right...he felt compasionate about it...my ass! He saved eds ass for the publicity. He could have used the money to save 1000 lower income folk from losing their houses but chose or chooses not to because no one cares about the other guy in this country, just the hollywood or rich folk. Besides its bad business for the trumpet to give to the poor comon folk and it might just mean he would have to look himself in the mirror and see something he has never seen before...his human, truely compassionate side and that would just ruin him.

That's not the point I was trying to make - I was wondering if this was one of Countrywide's bad loans?

Good question.

OswaldTheOsprey

It likely is not a good question.  The bad loans were made to people who had no realistic chance of actually paying the loan.  Someone like McMahon has a high income potential.  He may have taken on more loan that he should have, but he had the potential to earn more money.  Today’s mortgage crisis was caused by giving loans to people who had zero chance of paying off.

To begrudge high-earners their income is to doom your economy to the lowest common denominator.  (For Bones)

I would add that there is a difference between supporting capitalism and disregarding the need to regulate business- especially big-business.
