"I will lead the fight to abolish the IRS". He was Mike Huckabee and he approved that message.

Huckabee lied at the last debate when he said he was the only candidate on stage that had called to abolish the IRS. Back when there were 10 or 11 candidates on the republican stage, not only was the Huckster not alone in his support of the Fair Tax system (if memory serves, Tommy Thompson raised his hand and one other, but I don't recall who), which abolishes the income tax & the IRS, but Ron Paul called to abolish the IRS & the income tax and replace it with nothing.

Every time Huckabee opens his mouth, something odd slips out.

actually i think the huckster spoke of this pretty early in his campaign as he push his fair tax idea.  although from the little bit i read there was a substantial regulatory entity to administer his program?  does anybody think that fair/consumption tax is actually fair?  what does the fair in fair tax mean, really explain it to me.  where is the anti-tax man, sdml when you need him?

No no. I wasn't surprised by the content so much as by his boldness.

ahh ok...this is a bit of a stretch

it kind of reminds me of way back when his campaign was really struggling and he did the commercial with chuck norris and things took off for him (remember that one?)

i doubt the same thing happens again for him though

The Fair Tax system is not inherently "fair", as it disproportionately & negatively impacts the poor, which is why the designers decided to tweak the plan. The problem, as Grumpy states, is that it then requires a re-named IRS to administer the exceptions and "progressive" scales of pay (via rebates).

That's why it went from 8% to 23% in only a few years.

Here's an idea: Slash government spending by 10% across the board, then look at ALL gov programs for 1) redundancy, 2) efficiency, 3) constitutionality, and then take out the knife. That can be done in a matter of weeks. Then kill the IRS where they stand and eliminate the personal income tax. Replace it with nothing.

i have heard the figure 30% or even higher as opposed to the 23% figure of the huckster.  so your basically saying KILL THEM KILL THEM ALL!!  ah the power of grumpy compels you
