I think that a lot of these junk foods have been made to create a light form of addition.  Once you get used to not eating them they don't taste so good.

In fact, there are some lawsuits coming up against the fast food industry that will seek to use the cigarette offense against them.  Not that I think it is the same thing.  Unless they actually get documents showing the industry knew the fast food was bad / cancer causing and hid that from the public.

I guess I would say the first few bites taste good but if it's a lot then it can get gross quickly. I don't eat burgers or fries at home so if I made them myself I could probably do a better job. Fries right out of the fryer are great imo but if they've been sitting around and are soggy then I agree they don't taste good at all.

I'm always surprised when people say it doesn't taste good any more. To me it always tastes good, and I think from an evolutionary perspective fat and salt are supposed to taste good. Still I limit it to once every few months if that. Probably just a few times a year.

But what type of fat.

Eat a grass fed piece of beef and then eat a grain feed piece of beef.  Different taste.  And the grass fed beef is much better for you; the grain fed beef are pretty much bad for you.

Table salt is pretty much a waste.  But unprocessed sea salt is full of trace minerals that you need.  It is very good for you.

Right! I noticed that a few years ago. I feel mildly ill when I eat out at middle brow chains let alone fast food joints.  You lose the desire for it after a while.

Interesting. I'm generally against those kinds of suits unless there was intentional wrongdoing

Those are all very good points. Grass fed beef is awesome.

In my opinion the biggest issue with diet is portion size. It's not as if people ate healthy thirty years ago but obesity wasn't a problem. There was that professor recently who lost a fifteen pounds in two weeks or so eating junk, just controlling for calories. I think 1800 a day or so was his limit.

Believe me, I wish I didn't like the taste and am not defending the food just being honest.

I remember that food study - losing weight eating limited calories of junk food.

Yes.  Calories in versus calories burned is the bottom line.  The problem is the rest of the story.

I would think that this professor was very hungry with this limited junk food diet.  Junk food processes fast through your system, then you are hungry.  It must have sucked.  Then you get into health. I know the articles said that he had a lot of improvements on health markers, but we don't have a base line for him and don't know what he ate before.  In fact, for him to lose as much weight as he did, he probably was pretty out of shape.  His diet would push many people into diabetes and heart disease.

Portion size is very important. If you are really interested in losing weight you will calculate your resting metabolic rate, and subtract 500 calories, then count calories. This should allow for a 1 pound loss of fat per week.  Which is sustainable and healthy if you are working out at the same time.

Yes, I agree he must have had fat to burn for it to come off that quickly. Another question was his hydration...you can "lose" five pounds that way but it's not the same as fat loss. It would have been interesting to see how much muscle he lost as well.

Good point.  If much of the loss was muscle, that is bad.

I was curious so I looked it up. 27 pounds in ten weeks, so he must have been pretty fat to begin with. Here are the measures they used. I left BMI off because I think it's useless when you have been figures such as body fat percentage:

Haub's "bad" cholesterol, or LDL, dropped 20 percent and his "good" cholesterol, or HDL, increased by 20 percent. He reduced the level of triglycerides, which are a form of fat, by 39 percent.

Haub's body fat dropped from 33.4 to 24.9 percent.

Those are impressive numbers.  His diet before this must have been horrible.

:D Hilarious...my thought as well. I wonder if he purposefully "chunked up" beforehand to make the end results more dramatic. It must be embarrassing being an obese nutrition professor.
