Society picks alot of our norms, and they are not born out of anything natural or pure.  That doesn't necessarily make them wrong, but that's how it is.

Welcome to reality, Spunkloaf. I'm glad you now realize that civilization is passed on from generation to generation.

I probably wouldn't have been such a big drinker if my parents weren't. At some point though the child becomes and adult and it become a conscious choice whether or not to continue the habits of our elders. Every day is a chance to improve the rest of your life.  ;)

Exactly. The same applies to all norms. At some point in your life you make decision about who you are and what you believe.

Doesn't make it correct or perfect.  You seem to embellish that everything we do in our culture is righteous and just.  I think it's because you value your roots more than you value progress or adaptation.  In my mind, it is arrogance.  In yours, it is strength and respect.

What would you like to see change in our culture Spunk? I think the younger generations are already diverging from the cultural and traditional norms and we'll see more of that as they move into positions of power in our culture.

Doesn't make what righteous or just? Civilization? Culture? If your argument is against the former I'm not sure what I can say.

To value your roots is to value yourself. The two are inseparable. Your culture/civilization/kin are what gives your individuality meaning. Modern culture tends to celebrate the rootless or atomized individual. Mister D is in open revolt against modern norms.  8)

You are not a world unto yourself, Mr Spunkloaf.
