Republican Foreign Policy Debate Tonight
« on: November 12, 2011, 06:55:54 PM »
The Spartanburg, South Carolina, debate is chance for Texas Gov. Rick Perry to revive his candidacy after a major flub Wednesday night in Michigan where he said he wants to eliminate three government agencies but could only name two of them. The awkward pause has been played over and over again on TV and the Internet since then.

In the CBS News poll released Friday, Cain leads the field with 18 percent, followed by Romney and a surging Newt Gingrich at 15 percent. Perry is in fourth place in the poll with 8 percent, followed by Ron Paul at 5 percent, Michele Bachmann at 4 percent, Rick Santorum at 2 percent and Jon Huntsman at 1 percent.

The poll also showed that GOP primary voters consider Gingrich the presidential candidate most qualified to lead the military and handle an international crisis. He was cited by 31 percent of those surveyed, followed by Romney at 19 percent and Cain at 8 percent.

The tone was set at the outset, when the Republicans were asked if they would support a pre-emptive strike to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Gingrich quickly agreed with Romney, saying that if all other steps failed, "you have to take whatever steps are necessary" to prevent the Islamic regime from gaining a nuclear weapon.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania agreed. Noting that a mysterious computer virus had caused disruption inside Iran's nuclear labs, and that Iranian scientists have been killed in recent months, he said, "I hope that the U.S. has been involved" in those and other covert actions.

Paul wanted no part of a military strike. "It's not worthwhile to go to war," he said. He added said that if America's security is threatened the president must ask Congress for a formal declaration of war before taking military action.

Perry responded without answering the question. "This country can sanction the Iranian central bank right now and shut down that country's economy, and that's what the president needs to do," he said.

Huntsman, who served as Obama's first ambassador to China, said it was time to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan, a land where their boots first touched the soil a decade ago. "I say it's time to come home. I say this nation has achieved its key objectives," he said.

Romney and Perry said they would side with military commanders on the ground about when to withdraw troops. They criticized Obama for "telegraphing" the nation's intentions.

Yet Romney backed a timetable of a complete withdrawal by the end of 2014, the same that Obama has cited.....snip~

Really.....again something they can go at Romney with. Romney proves time and time again that he will flip or flop and do whatever cartwheeels he can to gain that Presidency.

Althought Perry stated if he President he would start with no Foreing Aid to any foreign countries. Bachman stated that was to naive. Citing Pakistan has a nuke and that there are obvious other reasons to give aid. Like Israel for one! Touche! Bachmann.

Once again the GOP allows the media to dictate the convo on Clandestine Operations for Intelligence Agencies and their tactics and strategies. Something the Media has always wanted to discover. Something that needs to be reminded to the American people that these agencies are more than some hollywood detective spying on some cheating husband or wife.

Michele Bachmann's campaign accused CBS News of bias after her spokeswoman was included on an email chain between network officials that suggested she would get limited questions during Saturday's debate.

"Okay let's keep it loose though since she's not going to get many questions and she's nearly off the charts in the hopes that we can get someone else," Dickerson replied, apparently unaware that Stewart was copied on the email.

CBS spokeswoman Sonya McNair defended the email, saying in a statement the email was a "candid exchange about the reality of the circumstances"—pointing to Bachmann's 4 percent standing in national polls.....snip~

Welcome to the World of the Big Boys Bachmann::)
