Socialists Lose in Spain
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:41:43 AM »
MADRID — Spaniards struggling with high unemployment and a credit squeeze delivered a punishing verdict on almost eight years of Socialist government at the ballot box on Sunday, turning to the conservative Popular Party in the hopes of alleviating the pain of Europe’s debt crisis.

With 99.8 percent of the vote counted Sunday night, the Popular Party, led by Mariano Rajoy, had won 186 seats and a governing majority in the 350-seat lower house of Parliament, while the governing Socialists plummeted to 110 seats from 169. It was the Popular Party’s best showing, and the Socialists’ worst, since Spain’s return to democracy in the 1970s.

Spain is the third southern European country in two weeks to see its government felled by the debt crisis in the euro zone. In Italy and Greece, prime ministers were forced by mounting financial and economic woes to resign and give way to interim “unity” governments of technical experts, who are meant to take urgent but unpopular austerity measures to cope with the crisis and then call new elections.

Too little, too late I fear but let's see how the Popular party deals with this monumental debt mess they've been handed.

So much for democracy and living the good life. I was born the year Franco died.

I think we're going to see some bigger riots in all three countries. People are pissed now but the shit hasn't really even hit the fan yet.

It's a consequence of their own lifestyles and outlook on life. They are as much to blame as their governments.

Of course I blame the people here. Our leaders are a reflection of ourselves. Otherwise, we wouldn't keep voting them into office. For example, fools like yourself are distracted by the whole Dem versus GOP game.

With the French to immediately follow. Then thats where the World needs to keep a very close eye on the French and the IMF. Including their connection to the ETF which can print money.

Don't know what the Brits will do. They got hyper-inflation. They raised the Corporate taxes. Nothing is working for them and now they admit they might have got it wrong.

How do we explain the difference between the PIIGS and the northern European core?

The Greeks wrack up debt with no thought of paying the bill while the Germans pay all of the bills for the Eurozone.

How does one wonder that this is going to last?
